3050mw Manbilla power project takes off soon, says Sambo

PLANS to begin work on the 3050mw Manbilla Power Plant in Taraba State have reached advanced stage, Vice-President Namadi Sambo disclosed Monday.
   The project, which will also power irrigation and serve as tourism site because of its proximity to the airport, the Vice-President said, would be one of the biggest power plants in Africa on completion. He stated government’s determination to ensure that the project is realised, as it would add more megawatts to the national grid and boost power transformation.
   Sambo, who dropped the hint in Kaduna yesterday while inspecting the 215mw Kaduna Power Plant under construction, said the 3050mw Manbilla power project would commence soon, “as all necessary preparations are in place.”
   According to him, the Ministry of Power has already concluded all designs of the project and as soon as other logistics are in place, work will resume at the site. Similarly, he expressed satisfaction with the progress so far made in the construction of the 215mw Kaduna Power plant, which is now put at 84 percent completion.
   “I am happy that this project is on cause, I can confirm for myself that this project is 64 percent completed. Though it was designed to be fully completed by June 2014, government is quite satisfied even though the completion date has been shifted to December,” he said. 
   He assured that government was determined to restore electricity to all the nooks and crannies of the country. Also speaking, Governor of Kaduna State, Ramalan Yero, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the project, stressing that his government would continue to support it to ensure that the project is completed and commissioned.
   Earlier, Ian Appleby, the Managing Director of SEWA, the consulting firm to the project, told Sambo that the completion date was shifted to December due to other construction works yet to be completed, as well as some equipments to be fixed but which were yet to arrive.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers.
