 Farmers in Taraba state have lamented the supply of low-quality agrochemicals for the 2022 farming season. According to the farmers, none of the herbicides supplied was effective even with increased measurement up to 300mg per 20Ltr knapsack sprayer, saying it is discouraging many farmers from large commercial farming activities. Reacting, Taraba state chairman, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Comr. Bala Aji, noted that the ineffectiveness of the agrochemicals was threatening food security in the state. To this effect, Aji informed that he had contacted dealers of the commodities to reach out to the manufacturers for product amendment after receiving complaints from many associates. According to him, three persons have been arrested while trying to supply more substandard agrochemical products to the state, while commending the Taraba state government for supporting farmers with inputs to boost production.

  The Central Bank Nigeria (CBN) has filed a motion on notice, challenging court’s order to pay former Taraba governor, Jolly Nyame and three others pension arrears in the National Industrial Court, Abuja. The other judgment creditors in the suit are Uba Ahmadu, Abubakar Armayau and Bilkisu Danboyi. When the matter was called before Justice Osatohanmwen Obaseki-Osaghae, counsel to CBN, Johannah Titus informed the court that she had two applications for stay of execution before the court. She then proceeded to seek leave of the court to withdraw an earlier motion dated and filed on May 27 in order to replace it with another filed on Monday. A lawmaker representing Wukari/Ibi Federal constituency, Danjuma Usman Shiddi has called on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to as a matter of urgency establish a Joint Military Operational base in either Takum or Wukari local government council of Taraba State The call which came on Tuesday via a request letter written by him to the COAS follows the prevailing security in the state. President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Wazirin Muri, Umar Ibrahim Malle and  19 others as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Consequently, President Buhari has written the Senate to confirm the appointments of the 19 nominees. The confirmation request to the upper chamber was contained in a letter dated July 25, 2022. The letter was read at plenary by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, on Tuesday. President Buhari, in the letter, said that the request for the confirmation of the nominees was in accordance with the Provisions of Section 154 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).   The ongoing legal tussle between the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Taraba State, Dantala Kefas Agbu and an aggrieved aspirant, Jerome Nyameh, is gradually coming to an end as the court adjourned for the adoption of written addresses, Daily Post Reports. Both parties in the case, at the time of filing this report, have closed their cases as all witnesses needed to be presented have testified before the Federal High Court sitting in Jalingo, the state capital.   Over 70.000 persons have been displaced as a result of the ongoing killings in the southern part of Taraba State. The killings, DAILY POST learnt, started at Kpambo-Puri village, in Takum Local Government Council three months ago, and has now spread to over fifteen villages. Speaking with our correspondent on Tuesday in Jalingo, the Worldwide President of the Kuteb ethnic group, Emmanuel Ukwen, who confirmed the number of the displaced persons, lamented that “over forty of my people have been killed”. He said the ongoing killings had also led to wanton destruction of properties, stressing that it would definitely lead to food scarcity in the State and the country at large if measures were not urgently put in place to arrest the situation. The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) on Thursday donated improved learning materials for pupils in basic schools in Taraba State. Director General of the agency, Dr Bashir Jamoh while presenting the items to school children in Jalingo said the gesture was the agency’s move to improve the quality of teaching and learning and part of the agency’s efforts to support the education of children in Taraba State. Pensioners in Taraba State yesterday took to the streets of Jalingo to protest nonpayment of their pensions and gratuities by the state government. Drawn from the 16 local government areas of the state, the pensioners threatened to boycott the 2023 general elections if their over eight years’ entitlements running to over N30 billion is not fully paid. Numbering over a hundred, the pensioners stormed the Government House carrying placards with different inscriptions such as ‘We are tired of lies and fake promises’ and ‘Ishaku pay us our money’ from where they proceeded to the State House of Assembly. At the Government House, they were denied entry by the security operatives on duty leading to pandemonium as the protesters rained invective on the government and its officials. News trending on some online platforms, alleges that one of his campaign vehicles loaded with arms and ammunition was intercepted by security operatives in Ibi local government.   Taraba State Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku has approved the dissolution of local government councils in the state. The dissolution followed the expiration of the tenure of the councils on 3/7/2022. Pursuant to this development, local government council’s chairmen have been directed to hand over the affairs of their respective councils to the Head of local government administration pending the return of the Executive Governor to the state.   Residents of Taraba State have expressed concerns about a possible increase in security challenges within a short time in the state following the disengagement of 200 youths from the services of the state agro company, the Taraba Green House. The residents decried that the return of the 200 youth to the streets of Taraba due to the moribund state of the company since 2020 was creating fear of a possible increase in criminal activities across the state.   Over 36,000 people are living with HIV/AIDS in Taraba state,even as the state government has again expressed its commitment to eliminate the virus by 2030. This was made known at the weekly review performance of the implementation Partners working across HIV, tuberculosis and orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in the State during the weekend. At the time of filing this report, 36,396 persons living with Human Immuno deficiency Viruses (HIV) in Taraba state, have been captured in the state’s database and are currently under regular treatment.Out of this number, 20,200 are said to be virally suppressed.
