Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, was earlier on Wednesday thrown into turmoil as what started as normal jubilation by some supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari over his re-election turned violent. The jubilating crowd had taken to the streets chanting victory songs, but some hoodlums later changed the atmosphere of excitement as they began to burn down billboards belonging to other parties. Some billboards at the entrance to the government house were also not spared, as the supporters moved through various streets of Jalingo. However, security was soon beefed up to curtail further breakdown of law and order as the crowd was brought under control by some security agents. The spokesperson of the Taraba State command, David Misal, said the police were on top of the situation as all hands were on deck to ensure that everyone carried out their lawful duties. -ChannelsTV

The Action Alliance Party in Taraba state has appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC for outright reversal of the Wukari, Ibbi Federal House of Representatives election to ensure Justice for all. State Chairman of the party Mr. Charles Buki who made the plea at a Press briefing in Jalingo, the state capital alledged that the Saturday’s House of Representatives election in many polling units in Wukari local government area had their election without using card readers, while in other places the card readers were scantly used. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INE74C) has decaled President Muhammadu Buhari, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the 2019 presidential election, held on Saturday Feb. 23. Buhari was declared re-elected having polled 15,191,847 votes, winning in 19 states, to defeat other 72 candidates including Atiku Abubakar, the Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 11, 255,978 votes and won 17 states and the FCT, to occupied the second position.

Sen. Emmanuel Bwacha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been declared winner of the Taraba South Senatorial poll with 96,352 votes. Prof. Adeyeye Solomon, the Returning Officer declared the results in Wukari on Monday. Solomon said that Ishaya Bauka of the All Progressives Congress (APC) placed second with 51,971 votes while Joel Ikenya of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) came third with 47,093 votes.(NAN)

Danjuma Shiddi of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has emerged winner of the Wukari/Ibi Federal Constituency seat in Taraba. Declaring the result in Wukari, the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) Returning Officer, Prof. Chibiya Shangu said Mr Shiddi polled 39,312 votes to defeat his close rival, Prof. Yakubu Aliyara of Action Alliance (AA) who got 22,147 votes. According to him, Naphtali Kefas of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) polled 20,574 votes while Mr Josiah Kente of the All Progressives Congress (APC) got 17, 522 votes. Mr Shiddi, who spoke with journalists shortly after, appreciated the electorate for their support. The Police Command in Taraba has confirmed the killing of five persons by gunmen in the early hours of Sunday after the general elections in the state. DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that victims were members of the ruling All Progressives Party, APC, who were returning from Karim Lamido area on election monitoring exercise. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, David Misal, made the confirmation while speaking to journalists in Jalingo. Mr Misal said the five persons were coming from Umari to Cambri villages in Karim Lamido Local Government Area when they were ambushed at about 3:00 a.m. by the hoodlums and shot dead. Voting is yet to start in the entire Sabon Gida ward in Gassol local government areas of Taraba state as a result of the card readers’ failure. The card readers sent to the ward were programmed for 16 February election which was later postponed by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) due to logistics. Our correspondent reports that when the election was postponed to February 23, the cards were not reprogrammed to reflect the new date. Daily Trust findings revealed that eligible voters trooped out in their numbers as early as 7am but could not vote because the card readers malfunctioned across the 49 polling units in the ward. However, voters in the area protested for what they called a deliberate attempt by the INEC and PDP to disenfranchise them. Governor Darius Ishaku has approved the employment of Fifty Nine casual staff of the College of Education, Zing. In a brief ceremony which took place at the Government House, Jalingo, the Governor presented the new members of staff with employment letters into the State Civil Service. Speaking during the presentation, the Governor stated that their employment was expedient since some of them had served the College for over five years. In its quest to further enhance security on the Mambilla Plateau in Taraba State, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has provided a mobile Jet A-1 fueling facility to enable the refueling of NAF Helicopters that would operate out of the 23 Quick Response Wing (23 QRW) Nguroje. This is according to NAF spokesman, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola. In addition, the NAF has provided motorcycles as well as other equipment and tactical gear to Special Forces personnel in the Wing to enable them more effectively carry out their assigned task. The people of Taraba State yesterday engaged in panic buying in anticipation that the restriction of movement during tomorrow’s Presidential and National Assembly elections may be extended. While many people were cited trooping to markets to buy food items and other valuables, customers also besieged banking halls making last-minute withdrawals and deposits. There were long queues of customers at Automated Teller Machines (ATM) points. Some buyers, who spoke with The Guardian in some of markets across the state, said they needed to purchase necessary food items before the election in the event of an extended exercise. Citing restriction of human and vehicular movement before the election end, they expressed concerns that the restriction might lead to curfew should there be violence during or after the polls. Ahead of Saturday’s rescheduled Presidential and National Assembly Elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission has said that materials for the elections in Taraba were intact and safe. Taraba State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Baba Abba Yusuf, disclosed this on Wednesday while interacting with journalists in his office. JAMB has disclosed that the printing of 2019 JAMB Exam Slip would commence March 2nd, 2019; that is two weeks before the examination. The reprinted slips will bear candidates schedule for the examination: date, time and centre as well as other necessary information about the examination. According to the board, from March 2nd, candidates will have their slips placed on their profiles. However candidates who are unable to access their slips through their portal can visit the board’s service portal,on  www.jamb.org.ng  to print the slip. The board added that messages would as well be sent to candidates, informing them on when to reprint their e-slip. Taraba State Government has reinstated Alhaji Haruna Kawuwa, the husband of late Safiya  who died at a presidential rally in Jalingo two weeks ago. Kawuwa was s acked by Taraba state government  few days after his wife Safiya died along with seven other persons at APC presidential rally.
