The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has ruled out the possibility of an extension of the deadline for customers to register for the Bank Verification Number (BVN) which closes tomorrow, Tuesday, June 30, 2015. The director, Corporate Communications, CBN, Ibrahim Mu’azu, who spoke to LEADERSHIP on telephone, yesterday, said that the window was open for one and a half years and customers had ample opportunity to register. According to him, as at the last check over 14 million bank customers have already registered. Mu’azu assured that not having the BVN will not prevent bank customers from making transactions, such as payments and withdrawals, on their accounts. However, he said that customers using remote access services, such as internet banking and other services online, and even Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), would not be able to transact business. Worried by the prolonged stay of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in camps across Taraba State, Tiv youths under the aegis of Concerned Taraba Tiv Youth Frontier (CTTYF) yesterday urged Governor Darius Ishaku to facilitate their return to their homes. In a media briefing in Jalingo, chairman of the group, Mr. Goodman Dan Dahida said children of the IDPs were being denied the right to education and other necessities of life. An international non-governmental organisation, Evidence for Action (E4A) mamaYe, has called on the Taraba State government to improve maternal newborn and child healthcare (MNCH) delivery in the state. National coordinator of the organisation, Dr Aminu Garba Magashi, made the call yesterday in Jalingo during a two-day capacity training for members of the Taraba State Accountability Mechanism on MNCH (TaSAMM). He explained that E4A is a United Kingdom funded programme which aims at improving maternal and newborn survival in six sub-Saharan countries namely, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, Sierra Leone and Tanzania. The Chairman, Muslim Council in Taraba, Alhaji Inuwa Manu, has urged Muslim faithful to use the Ramadan to demonstrate love and peaceful coexistence among different religious adherents in the state.
