  Pandemonium in Jalingo, the Taraba State Capital at the moment particularly around Water Board side as a fight was started between some guys over a girl but have now resulted in burning of a Mosque and a Church.  Tension is however brewing in the area as the crisis is taking a religion colouration, however some eyewitnesses confirmed that the crisis started over a lady in the area.   The Tiv Internally Displaced Persons in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State on Friday commended Governor Darius Ishaku over his efforts at returning peace in the area. Coordinator of the IDPs, Mr. Christopher Adyem, who made the commendation in a telephone interview with journalists said the IDPs and returnees have since commenced their farming activities across various villages in the area. Adyem thanked Governor Ishaku for returning them back to their ancestral homes, saying the return of the IDPs will enable them to prepare for the next farming season. He called on the state government to assist the returnees with food, shelter, and drugs to enable them to start their lives again. President-General of Tiv Cultural and Social Association, Taraba State, Joshua Ayagwa, also commended Governor Darius Ishaku for the return of peace in the southern part of the state.   The North-East Governors Forum has called for the execution of more Federal Government capital projects in 2021 to ensure the rapid development of the region. The forum expressed disappointment over the provision of N45.32 billion for capital projects in the region in the Federal Government budget for 2021. The governors made the appeal in a communique issued at the end of the Third Meeting of the forum on Friday in Yola. Taraba State Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku has called for assistance from the Federal Government and other humanitarian agencies for the state to rebuild structures and replace items either damaged or stolen by hoodlums that took advantage of the EndSars protests in the state. Governor Ishaku made the appeal on Tuesday in Jalingo after an assessment tour of the warehouses looted and structures vandalised by the hoodlums. Governor Ishaku was out of the state when the looting and vandalisation took place in Jalingo. More than ten warehouses where items either procured by the state government or donated to it as palliatives were invaded by hoodlums and completely stolen. The National Boundary Commission (NBC) said it will resolve crisis in grey areas of boundary demarcation between Benue and Taraba in early 2021. It called for peaceful coexistence among the residents in the border community. Richard Oji, Director of Interstate Boundaries in the Commission, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Abuja. Mr Oji said the commission had done so much over the years in the demarcation of the boundary between the two states. “But there have been a lacuna in the process which had to do with the people’s perception on demarcation and disagreement between the two states. “The legal document or instruments we used, particularly the 1923 and 1924 agreements on the boundary have equally affected the efforts of the commission. “Also, various states creation, from North East to Gongola, Adamawa and Taraba; also from the former Benue-Plateau to Benue and other states that have been carved out have affected the efforts of the boundary...

  A suit challenging the composition of the panel of investigations into the Tiv-Jukun crisis in Taraba State was Thursday adjourned indefinitely.  The suit was adjourned by Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja. The Incorporated Trustees of Mzough U Tiv and five others had gone to court challenging the constitution of the probe panel into the tribal clashes in Taraba State. The indefinite adjournment followed an application to that effect by counsel to the plaintiffs, Chief Sebastine Hon (SAN), who informed the court that a letter seeking the transfer of the case to the Jalingo division of the court has been written to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho. Hon then prayed the court to adjourn the case indefinitely to await the decision of the Chief Judge on the request for the transfer of the case to Jalingo. The Taraba State House of Assembly on Monday gave approval to the State Government to obtain a credit facility of N1.5 billion to facilitate agricultural development in the State. Speaker of the State Assembly Dr Joseph Albasu Kunini, who read the communication from the State Governor seeking the approval of the House at plenary, said that the facility is intended to engage ten thousand youths in the production of cassava, soya-beans and cocoa in the State. ‘Honorable Speaker, Honorable members, one of the surest ways for my administration to curb the menace of unemployment, rural-urban migration and food insecurity is through investment in the agricultural sector. P rices of Food stuffs has gone up in Taraba state Daily Trust finding revealed. It was noticed that the prices is increasing on weekly basis across the state. 100kg bag of Maize now sold at N12,000 100kg bag of Paddy rice sold between N12,000 to N14,000. Also affected by the increase include beans, Soya beans, Yam, Millet and Guinea Corn. It was gathered that only last two weeks the prices of harvested farm produce were sold at low price. For example, the bag of Maize, Paddy rice and beans were sold last two week at N7,000,N9,000 and N28,000,respectively. In most of the grains markets visited in the state by Daily Trust hundreds of trucks were seen loaded with farm produce going to different destinations.   The National Assembly may adjust the 2021 Budget estimate to accommodate a take-off grant for $5.8 billion Mambilla Hydro-Electricity plant. The budget may be passed in the first or second week of next month. Lawmakers are pushing for the implementation of the Stephen Oronsaye committee’s report to reduce the high cost of governance, especially the recurrent expenditure. It was learnt that there had been issues with lack of votes for the Mambilla project in the 2021 estimate. Only the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) has committed about $200million into the project. Minister of Finance Zainab Ahmed said the Mambilla Power project was not captured in the 2021 budget because it was not prioritised by the ministry of power. The financing arrangement indicated that while China’s Export-Import Bank will provide 85 per cent of the resources, the Federal Government caters for 15 per cent of the joint venture. Justice Ahmed Mohammed of an Abuja Federal High Court has ordered the withdrawal of the Certificate of Return (CoR) issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to Hon. Abdulsalam Gambo Mubarak as member of House of Representatives, representing Bali/Gassol federal constituency of Taraba State. The court said INEC’s decision to issue Mubarak with CoR in the first instance violated the provisions of Section 285 (13) of the 4th Alteration Act to the 1999 constitution (as amended) No. 24 of 2018 and the provisions of section 75 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended). Consequently, the court ordered the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and the clerk of the House to swear in the applicant, Hon.   FILE: FRSC  FILE: FRSC officials at the scene of an accident ‌ Justin Tyopuusu and Bola Bamigbola The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps in Taraba State, Selina Williams, on Friday said the state recorded 23 deaths from 121 road crashes in the third quarter of 2020. This is contained in a statement by Assistant Route Commander, Okwodowa Paul, who is also the command’s Public Education Officer in Jalingo. The statement issued in commemoration of the 2020 African Road Safety Day and World Day of Remembrance, stated that 195 vehicles were involved in the crash, while 338 people sustained injuries. Williams noted that speed violation, wrongful overtaking and tyre burst were major causes of road crashes during the period. She appealed to motorists to desist from buying used tyres, noting that more lives could be saved if they used brand new tyres.
