One hundred and fifty women have been trained on Shea butter processing in Taraba state. The General Manager of Taraba State Water Supply Agency, Mr Buba Musa, has disclosed that the agency currently loses N72 million annually as a result of water leakages from broken pipes and nonpayment of bills by water consumers. Musa made the disclosure at a media roundtable meeting tagged: E-WASH (Effective Water Sanitation and Hygiene Services) on Thursday in Jalingo. The programme was sponsored by USAID in Nigeria. According to him, among the agency’s debtors were government ministries, agencies, parastatal organisations and residents. He, therefore, appealed to all the consumers to pay their bills, promptly, to enable the agency serve them better, warning that the increase in population of people in Jalingo, due to insecurity in some states in the Northeast, called for an efficient water supply within the state to cope with the pressure. The Federal Government is set to commence the pilot phase of the project in Taraba, Adamawa, Plateau, Kaduna and seven other states, Saturday PUNCH’s investigations have confirmed. It was learnt in Abuja on Friday that the execution of the project would start in 11 states including Sokoto, Nasarawa, Kogi, Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara and Niger. Documents seen by one of our correspondents at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development showed that all was set for the implementation of the initiative. “The pilot states for its implementation are Sokoto, Adamawa, Nasarawa, Kaduna, Kogi, Taraba, Katsina, Plateau, Kebbi, Zamfara and Niger. The Student of Taraba State University Jalingo, Abdulrahman Adamu Sale who was kidnapped few days ago have regained his freedom. Abdulrahman's Aunt informed #TARABA_FACTS last night that he was released, and was badly beaten. It was not clear if ransoms was paid. The abductors had earlier demanded N50million but his release followed series of negotiation between relatives and the abductors. Facts have emerged on why Taraba was selected to benefit from the twenty three billion naira United States Agency for International Development (USAID) intervention for Effective Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Services (E-WASH) pilot programme in Nigeria. TY Danjuma, as he is popularly referred to, is now worth $1.2 billion according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The latest acquisition of the 80-year-old retired army general is a 14-room inn in London. Five persons were killed on Tuesday and several houses burnt in a fresh crisis between the Tiv and Jukuns in Rafinkada Village of Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. Daniel Adi, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Council, confirmed the development in a telephone interview with with the News Agency of Nigeria in Jalingo. Adi alleged that gunmen in Army camouflage attacked Rafinkada and set several houses ablaze. The Chairman disclosed that a soldier injured in the attack is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Wukari. He said the deployment of soldiers to the area has brought the situation under control. DSP David Missal, spokesman of the Taraba State Police Command, confirmed the incident, but said only one person killed. “The report I have indicated that armed militia youth crossed from Benue State and attacked a community in Wukari LGA and one person was killed and some houses burnt,” the spokesman said. The Supreme Court has adjourned the appeal filed by the it Taraba State APC Gubernatorial Candidate in the March 9, 2019 election challenging the Judgments of the Federal High Court, Jalingo and the Court of Appeal, Yola Division that disqualified him from participating in the election. The case which was billed for hearing was stalled due to the inability of the Respondents to file their Brief of Argument as at when due having been served with the Appellant’s Brief of Argument which was filed on 21 May, 2019. The five-man panel Justices of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Mary Odili ordered the Respondents to file their Respondent’s Brief of Argument on 27/06/2019 as against their plea to file on Friday 28/06/2019 stressing that time is of the essence in this matter. The Court therefore, adjourned to July 1, 2019 for the continuation of hearing.

Worried by general insecurity, Muslims and Christians in Takum, the headquarters of Takum local government area of Taraba state have came together to offer prayers for permanent peace in the area, the state and Nigeria.  The prayers, which was jointly offered by followers of the two faiths were conducted at Rimi primary school in the centre of the town. Suspected kidnappers have shot the manager of Bank of Agriculture, Jalingo branch, in Taraba state, Alhaji Muhammed Umar, at Yagai area  in Jalingo and abducted his wife, Rukayya, despite the curfew imposed on the town by the state governor, Darius Ishaku.  Daily Trust gathered that the kidnappers numbering about ten stormed the residence of the bank manager located in Yagai area on Sunday midnight.                     ADVERTISEMENT  It was gathered that the kidnappers who were armed forced their way into the manager’s bedroom and shot him on the stomach and took his wife away.
