‎ Taraba Governor, Ishaku Calls For Unity THE newly sworn-in Governor Taraba State, Darius Dickson Ishaku has called on the people to put aside their differences and unite for the sole purpose of catapulting the state to the greatest height. The governor who made this known yesterday at his swearing in ceremony which took place at the Jolly Nyame Stadium, Jalingo, also called on politicians in the state to come together irrespective of their political parties to move the state forward. According to him, there are plans to rescue the civil service, which he observed has been brought down to the lowest ebb, adding, “We shall encourage cordial working relationship between the politicians and civil servants.” He said that education, unemployment, agriculture among others, would been given consideration as they would go a long way in bringing to an end the issue of lack of security which has led to massive destruction of lives and property in the state. The newly inaugurated governor of Taraba State, Darius Dickson Ishaku yesterday said he is on a mission to rescue the state from the strangleholds of socio-economic and infrastructural backwardness as well as other problems bedevilling the state. Ishaku, who gave the assurance in his inaugural address shortly after been sworn-in by the Taraba state Chief Judge, Justice Josephine Tuktur, urged people of the state to cooperate with his administration to enable him succeed. He said his administration will give attention to harnessing the abundant potential in agriculture, commerce and tourism, just as he promised to improve on healthcare services, environmental sanitation, education, water supply and provisions of employments for the people, amongst others. Unwell departing Governor of Taraba State, Danbaba Suntai has reportedly moved his personal belongings from the state Government House in Jalingo. His departure will usher in the way for the Governor-elect Darius Dickson Ishaku, who will be sworn in on Friday, May 29, 2015. In the light of the forgone, Suntai, who sustained a severe damaged to his brain in a plane crash on October 25, 2012, has been recuperating in Government House. He has been in and out of foreign hospitals, improving slightly on his health. It was learnt that Suntai’s deputy, Abubakar Sani Danladi, who has been ruling the state in acting capacity, bought a house for his principal in Jalingo. The apartment which may be one of his retirement package as a governor is now being occupied by the family of the departing governor.   The Yola Electricity Distribution Company has disconnected power supply to the Taraba State Government House over N74 million unpaid electricity bills, Daily Trust learnt yesterday. The power cut, it was learnt, followed the inability of the state government to offset its five months outstanding bills covering January to May 2015. The electricity company had on April 16 written a letter to the state acting governor asking for payment of the outstanding bill to avoid disconnection. “In line with the new Yola Electricity Distribution Company management’s drive for the collection of outstanding debts owed the company by  electricity consumers under its jurisdiction, a careful examination of our authenticated records revealed that the Taraba State government’s accounts have an authenticated debt of N60,356,978.41 as at April, 2015”, the letter said. The Taraba State House of Assembly has passed into law, a bill for the payment of pensions and entitlements to governors and deputy governors who have served the state for a reasonable period of time. The Speaker of the house, Dr Mark Usani Bako, who presided over the sitting yesterday in Jalingo, said the bill was sponsored by the former speaker of the house, Hon Josiah Sabo Kente of Wukuri 1 state constituency. He added that the bill would provide pension to former holders of the office of governor and deputy governor of the state. Hon A. Ajulde of (Gembu Constituency) at a plenary sitting moved the motion for the adhoc- committee set up by the house to present its report before the house and was seconded by the majority leader of the house, Hon Joseph Albasu Kunini of Lau Constituency.
