          Chief of Army Staff in Jalingo     T he Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Baba Abubakar was in Jalingo on Sunday to commiserate with the family of late Alhaji Aliyu Baba who died on the 22/10/2016, after a brief illness. Shortly after his arrival at the deceased compound prayers were offered for the soul of the deceased and his family which was led by Retired Grand Khadi Abdulmumuni Mohammed and Grand Khadi Ahmed Bose.   In continuation of feasibility studies by German investors aimed at creating employment opportunities to the teeming populace of the State, the team was in Lau Local Government to inspect the Lau Tomatoes Company, which has been lying fallow for over three decades.   The team leader of the German investors, Engr. Michael Struve in company of the commissioner of Commerce and Industries and some officials of the ministry inspected the Lau Tomatoes company which has suffered long period of abandonment. Engr. By Nick Dugba On  December 4th,1981, a group known as the Taraba Movement, made a request to the National Assembly requesting for the creation of Taraba state. It is however not a secret that Taraba state is well endowed with resources, both human, and material. The Gateway into the City of Jalingo -Taraba State Capital. The only secret perhaps is the myriad of untapped human and material resources hidden in the State.  What an irony! Will nature by which we pride ourselves as our gift, forgive us if we fail to utilize its potentials? Anyway, over the span of 25 years, Taraba has been able to create a niche for itself on the agricultural map of Nigeria,  but it could have done more if there was better political will by successive governments. The Taraba Commissioner for Health, Dr Innocent Vakkai, on Monday warned communities in the state against rejecting poliomyelitis vaccines. Vakkai gave the warning in Jalingo in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). According to him, there are reported cases of rejection of vaccines by some people in Sintali, Kona, Ambaliya and Turaki areas of the state. He wondered why people would still be rejecting vaccines, “in spite of two weeks of sensitization, organised to enlighten people on the importance of polio vaccination''.   The Taraba State Executive Council has lifted the embargo placed on employment into the state civil service. According to the Executive Council, the decision to lift the ban was taken, based on the draft White Paper Committee Report on the verification of transfers and employment in the State Civil Service from the month of November, 2012 to May 2015. All members of the council accepted the White Paper Committee Recommendations and collectively agreed that in the process of engagement of staff in the service, due process should be followed through advertisement of vacancies. They agreed on the need to take into consideration geographical spread and that all employment in the state civil service should be made on the strength of presentation of genuine education and professional certificates as against the statements of results or testimonials. The Chairman, state fadama technical committee,  Isaac Mela made the remarks during the national coordination office technical assistant’s visit to Taraba state. He said  the function involved town hall discussion and field visit to Fadama III additional financing production cluster farms. For his service to humanity, Kwararafa University Wukari, Taraba State has named its library after the mother of former Defence Minister Gen Theophilus Danjuma. The late Rufkatu Asibi Kuru Danjuma, a woman of limited western education, saw the power of education and ensured that her son Theophilus Danjuma went to school. She was said to have felt disappointed when Theophilus Danjuma abandoned a B.A History programme at the Nigeria College Zaria to join the Army, which though, has made him famous. The N34m-library has a capacity of 300, physical collection of 10,000 books including journals and other publications, a media section and an e-library which gives access to 1.5 million publications across globally recognised channels. The university authority said Danjuma was rewarded because of his immense contribution to the nation’s education sector, particularly to the development of the Kwararafa University. The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Senator Jummai Alhassan, has said the Taraba State Government has refused to release relief materials provided by the federal government for distribution to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the state.  Addressing IDPs gathered at the Federal Science and Technical College (FSTC) Jalingo yesterday, the minister said the relief materials which comprised 10, 000 metric tons of maize were deposited with the state government for safe keeping by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). “You may wish to note that Mr President had earlier directed all ministers in the six states of the North East to go back to their respective states and conduct the distribution exercise and by this directive, 10,000 metric tons totaling 12,000 bags of maize were allocated for distribution to IDPs in Taraba state. TARABA and five other states of the North East are to benefit from a $250 million intervention provided by the African Development Bank‎ (ADB) in order to develop the region.   The other North East states that will benefit from the grant include; Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Gombe and Taraba states.   Leader of the Bank's delegation, Mrs Rosemond Offei-Awuku, disclosed this  in Bauchi on Saturday at a stakeholders meeting with representatives of various ministries and government agencies.   The meeting which was held  to discuss the various‎ areas of interventions which the money would be disbursed and channelled into.   She said that the grant will enable the bank to key into the rebuilding efforts of the Nigerian Federal Government for the North East region.   She noted that, out of the amount, $150 million will be channeled into the water and sanitation sector while the remaining $100 million will be used for socio-economic interventions in vari...
