  The Senate Committee on Power has faulted what it said was about 20 proposed power projects in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State. Lau is the local government of the current minister of power,  Mamman Saleh . The panel raised the concerns on Wednesday during the budget defense of the Rural Electrification Agency. In the agency’s 2021 proposed budget, the panel said it identified 20 rural electrification projects between N20 million to N52 million. It also pointed that only one of the projects for 2021 in the entire South-South geopolitical zone was proposed to be cited in Delta State, Punch Newspaper  reports . Yusuf Yusuf, a member of the panel, was the first to notice the discrepancies in the agency’s proposed budget – which he said was filled with uneven distribution of mini-grid power projects for rural communities, alleging that many of them were concentrated in the minister’s LGA.

  Taraba state Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku has warned traditional rulers in the state against indiscriminate allocation of land without recourse to laid down rules and regulations. The Taraba state government has relaxed the 24 hour curfew imposed on Jalingo, the state capital and Wukari local government area. This was disclosed in a press release signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor on New Media, Musleem Aruwa. It states that the state deputy governor, His Excellency, Engr. Haruna Manu said the curfew now runs from 6:00pm to 7:00am until further notice. It states that Government will continue to monitor the situation until normalcy is restored completely and law-abiding citizens can go about their legitimate businesses as government and other security agencies have adopted tougher safeguards to protect lives and property. Hoodlums, in their large numbers on Sunday night invaded Wukari, headquarters of Wukari local government in Taraba, carting away valuables at the Government Lodge, Council Secretariat and the ministry of Agriculture. The Vice-Chairman of the local government, Mr. Tijani Saleh told The Nation the incident started around 8: 00 pm when the hoodlums who had converged at the Ibi roundabout began to sing different tunes of war songs and later burgled into the local government Ministry of Agriculture, which they looted. He added the hoodlums thereafter moved to the Government Lodge and the local government Secretariat, carting away valuables, including office furniture. According to the Vice- Chairman, private shops and businesses centres were also freely looted by the hoodlums. The structure you are seeing is Banyam primary school in Darofai District of Karim lamido LGA of Taraba state.   Taraba state police command says it has arrested 17 suspects in connection to the vandalization of warehouses in the state. Spokesman of the state police command, DSP David Misal, who disclosed this in a statement also confirmed the death of two persons as a result of the stampede. Misal explained that the recovered items include 8 bags of Rice, 39 bags of fertilizer, 9 cartons of indomie, 9 bottles of agrochemical, 3 camp beds and 4 cartons of macaroni were intercepted. He further said a joint patrol organized by the Commissioner of Police in collaboration with other sister agencies has commenced.This he said was to prevent further attacks and breakdown of law and order.   Hoodlums in their number have continued to loot warehouses belonging to both private and government in Taraba State. Channels Television learnt the hoodlums no longer go for food items alone, but anything they can cart away with. On a visit to one of the scenes on Sunday in Jalingo, the state capital, looting of warehouses was still ongoing without hindrances by security agencies even as the 24-hour curfew imposed by the government persists.   Six persons has died during a stampede as angry residents looted several warehouses in Jalingo Taraba State capital, Taraba Truth and Facts Report. The angry residents had on Saturday broke open a warehouse containing COVID-19 palliatives donated by the Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID), the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC), and the Victims Support Funds (VSF). The warehouses located at the Veterinary Clinic opposite the secretariat of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Jalingo, the state capital also houses grains of maize and soybeans belonging to AFEX Commodities Exchange.
