Police Brutality: Taraba Inaugurate Judicial Commission of Inquiry




 You may wish to note that in line with public outcry against the activities of the Nigerian Police (particularly the SARS) and directive of the Federal Governemnt, the Taraba State Government did set-up this Judicial Commission of Inquiry which was inaugurated on Thursday, 22nd day of October, 2020 by His Excellency, the Executive Governor, Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku.

The Commission was to amongst other things look into alleged activities of Police Brutality and other Security Agencies and to make practical recommendations on how best restitution and compensation can be obtained for victims of such brutalities. 



In pursuance to this desire, the State Government carefully considered and selected the Members of the Commission who are without doubt men of high repute and integrity.

In furtherance of this desire, the State Government knowing quite well that Women and Youths are victims of such brutality in the society and the fact that their input often times can be far-reaching, decides to include Youths and Women bodies to expand the Membership of the Commission to accommodate the representative of these groups. 

It is in the light of the above that I, Engr. Haruna Manu (the Deputy Governor of Taraba State) via Instrument dates 28th day of October, 2020, signed by me on behalf of the Executive Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku hereby enlarge the Membership of the Judicial Panel to include the following as additional Members; 

1. Khadi Ahmed M. Bose, 

Grand Khadi (Rtd), 


2. Punarimam Daniel Atenji, Chairperson, National Council for Women Societies, Taraba State Chapter, 


3. Udi N. Adamu, Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Taraba State. (Reprsentataive of the Youths). 


Finally, I wish to use this medium to once again appeal to Tarabans, especially the Youths in the light of recent events across the Country and Taraba State, to restrain from any temptation to quench the loud voice that has brought our agitation to lime light. 


We should therefore, support Government in finding a lasting solution to the situation until peace becomes our watchword, and otherwise, our development will continue to elude us. 


I urge every one of us to join hand and support the State and Federal Government in order to achieve this task.

Truck Drivers Block Jalingo–Zing–Yola Road Following Dispute at NDLEA Checkpoint

Taraba Facts Truck drivers have reportedly blocked the Jalingo–Zing–Yola road following a disagreement with a soldier at an NDLEA checkpoint last night. Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
