‎ Newly deployed Commissioner of Police in Taraba State, Mr. Ekechukwu Nwodibo, has expressed his preparedness to wage war relentlessly against armed robbers and other criminal elements in his bid to rid the state of crime. The CP, who disclosed this while addressing Senior Police Officers (SPO) in his command at the state’s police headquarters in Jalingo upon his resumption of office warned all criminals in the state to leave and relocate or face the full wrath of the law. Similarly, the police boss warned officers and men of the command who engage in corrupt practices to desist from such acts saying whoever  is caught engaging in corruption would be severely dealt with in line with internal mechanisms and control. He stated that rather than wait for criminals to commit the crime, police in the state under his watch would take the battle to the doorstep of criminals to dislodged them and prevent the occurrence of criminal acts across the state. No fewer than 50 houses and farmlands have been destroyed by flood in three local government areas of Taraba State. Speaking with LEADERSHIP yesterday in Jalingo, the executive secretary of the state emergency management agency ( SEMA ), Mr. Nuvalga Dan Abuh said that incident has destroyed household items belonging to the victims. He stressed that over 50 farmlands and farm produce worth millions of naira had also been destroyed by the flood. He noted that the flood incident occurred in Lau, Karm-Lamido and a part of Ibi local government areas of the state. According to him, the flood incident was attributed to release of water from Lagdo Dam by the Republic of Cameroon. He stressed that government had already evacuated affected persons to IDP camps set up to settle displaced persons in case of any flood disaster in the state. All Progressive Congress, APC, chairman in Taraba State, Alhaji Ardo Jika, has said the deputy governor of the state, Haruna Manu, whose company carried out civil servants biometrics exercise in the state is being paid a whopping N16.9m monthly as consultancy fee. Ardo who spoke in a telephone interview with National Mirror from Abuja said the PDP government in the state gave the contract to Haruna Manu long before he became the deputy governor to enable them make money to prosecute the 2015 governorship campaign in the state. “It is laughable that today the governor is again doing staff verification. The Taraba State Government has found itself in a big mess over the purchase of two Embraer ERJ 145 airplanes for the proposed airline called Air Taraba. The two planes, currently parked at Abuja and Kaduna airports, have not been put to either private or commercial use since they were brought from the United States of America into Nigeria in February 2012 and September 2014, respectively, according to findings by our correspondent. How much the state government paid to acquire the two aircraft could not be confirmed as of press time, but planes.axlegeeks.com and aircraftcompare.com put the price for each of the plane at $21m (N4.137bn). The two planes, therefore, would have cost the state government not less than $42m (N8.3bn). Nigeria's Internally Displaced Persons Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, who fled Boko Haram attacks in Adamawa and Borno states and currently taking refuge at the Gulun IDP camp in Jalingo have called on the Taraba State government and relevant agencies to provide food for them. The IDPs, mostly from Chibok, Askira Uba, Gwoza and Madagali Local Gov­ernment Areas of Borno and Adamawa states have been at the camp for more than a year. The camp secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Bulus, said the major challenge of the IDPs was food as what they received from their states have since finished. According to him, they have been receiving food from members of the Na­tional Youth Service Corps, NYSC, nongovernmental organisations and philan­thropists, with little assis­tance from the Taraba State government. Taraba state has gotten its share of flood disaster this year. Scores of people and domestic animals have reportedly feared killed in a fierce havoc wreaked by the flood. The most affected local government councils are Karimlamido and Lau. The flood was caused by heavy torrential downpour, even as the people are yet to witness the release of water from a Cameroon dam. A House of Assembly member from Karimlamido, Edward Baraya, confirmed reports of the flood disaster and deaths, but was not certain about the casualty figure. The council caretaker Chairman of Karimlamido Idi Danfulani also said many residents were reported killed in his council but he does not know the exact number of those killed.
