IDPs In Jalingo Seek Taraba Government’s Help

Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, who fled Boko Haram attacks in Adamawa and Borno states and currently taking refuge at the Gulun IDP camp in Jalingo have called on the Taraba State government and relevant agencies to provide food for them.
The IDPs, mostly from Chibok, Askira Uba, Gwoza and Madagali Local Gov­ernment Areas of Borno and Adamawa states have been at the camp for more than a year.
The camp secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Bulus, said the major challenge of the IDPs was food as what they received from their states have since finished.
According to him, they have been receiving food from members of the Na­tional Youth Service Corps, NYSC, nongovernmental organisations and philan­thropists, with little assis­tance from the Taraba State government.
They therefore appealed to the state government to come to their aid.
While recounting their ordeal, Mrs. Japari Mari, a mother of six described their situation in the camp as unbearable.
She said apart from food challenge, their children have been out of school for over a year because they cannot afford to pay school fees.
Mrs. Japari explained that some of their challeng­es were recently addressed when officials of United Na­tions High Commission for Refugees, UNHCR, donated non-food items to them.
The IDPs said they were looking for the December deadline given to the secu­rity personnel to end insur­gency in their states so that they can return home.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
