Following the subsequent bombing of innocent Nigerians by suicide bombers in some motor parks across the country, Taraba State government has banned multiple motor parks in the state. Ishaku, who spoke to journalists yesterday in Jalingo through the state chairman on environmental sanitation, Hon. Shuaibu Attaka Shaukani said the idea by the state government to band multiple motor parks in the state was addressing the issue of insecurity among others in the state. “Like in Gombe and Adamawa, suicide bombers have severally attacked motor parks. To take a proactive measure, we decided to band multiple parks and move all parks to a single place” he said. The Taraba Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Hassan Ardo, on Thursday expressed concern over the reluctance of the state House of Assembly to elect a speaker. Ardo, who spoke with newsmen in Jalingo said the development had stalled the assembly from sitting to consider the 2016 budget proposal submitted to it by Gov. Darius Ishaku. It will be recalled that the Court of Appeal sitting in Yola, Adamawa had in Dec 2015, nullified the election of the Speaker, Mr Abel Diah of the PDP, representing Mbanga state constituency and ordered supplementary polls in eight polling units within 90 days. The Senator representing Taraba Central, Yusuf Abubakar Yusuf, has denied reports of an influx of suspected members of Boko Haram terror group in the state. The denial follows initial reports by fellow Emmanuel Bwacha suggesting the suspected members of the murderous group had been transported from the Sambisa forest in Borno State to wreck havoc in Taraba. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced February 20, 2016 to hold supplementary elections in one federal and two state constituencies in Taraba State. Speaking on Wednesday, January 27, INEC’s Administrative Secretary in the state, Alhaji Mohammed Umar, announced the date at a stakeholder’s meeting in Jalingo. Umar said elections would hold in Kurmi/Gashaka /Sardauna Federal Constituency as well as Ardo Kola and Mbamga State Constituencies. He stressed that only registered voters with Permanent Voter Cards, PVC, would vote in the elections. Umar, also said the commission had commenced preparations for the elections, disclosing that only the commission’s staff and corps members would be used for the elections. Officials in Taraba confirm four more people have died from Lassa fever, bringing the total to seven at the federal medical centre in the capital Jalingo. A total 19 people suspected to have Lassa fever were hospitalised at the centre. Six have been treated and discharged, and three others are still on admission. Head of clinical services at the centre, Dr. Iliya Attah  confirmed the latest deaths. He said the hospital has organized lectures for workers with a view to help reduce the risk  of contracting the Lassa fever virus. Meanwhile the centre medical director, Dr, Wiza Inusa, has advised Taraba state Government to embark on enlightenment on the risk involved in consumption of rat meat. He said the call became necessary because despite the risk posed by rats many people in the state are still  eating rat meat. - Daily Trust 

Minister Of Women Affairs and Social Development Taraba state Aspirants Forum of the Peoples Democratic Party has accused the party of not holding party primaries before the last poll, throwing its weight behind Senator Jummai Alhassan, the governorship candidate of the All Progress Congress in the last poll. In a communique issued after its meeting held at Karu, Abuja, the forum alleged that aspirants spent so much money only to be denied opportunity to seek the party ticket at the primaries. ‎ Stakeholders and supporters of the All Progressive Congress (APC) have continued to express confidence that the Appeal Court ruling on the Taraba State governorship election will be upturned at the Supreme Court. They insist that it is only a matter of time before the party’s candidate in the election, Hajia Aisha Alhassan is sworn in as governor. Speaking to newsmen, a chieftain of the party in Gombe, Julius Ishaya, said the tribunal ruling which returned Hajia Aisha as winner of the election, must be upheld to check internal democracy and impunity among some parties. “We in the APC are law-abiding people; so we depend solely on the judiciary and believe that the Supreme Court will not let us down in this matter.  I believe very strongly that Hajia Aisha will be sworn in as governor. Internally Displaced Persons taking refuge in Taraba state have appealed to the state government to offer free education to their children. Their spokesman, Mallam Ibrahim Dauda said majority of them were victims of Boko - Haram insurgency from Adamawa Borno and Yobe states while others were victims of communal crisis in the State. He said they were finding it difficult to feed themselves because they have lost all their belongings in the attack by the insurgents. According to him, most of them are jobless and therefore were unable to send their children to schools. More than 600 cattle were stolen while three were herdsmen killed by cattle rustlers at Gareji village of Wukari local government area in Taraba state midnight on Sunday. This brings to 17, 500 cattle stolen in Taraba in the last three years, the chairman Miyyetti Allah Association of Nigeria Taraba state branch, Alhaji Mafindi Danbauran said. He said the rustler about ten in number and well-armed invaded the Fulani settlement at Gareji mid night and carted away the animals. The chairman stated that during the attack, three herds men were killed while some women were abducted to unknown locations. He said some local tribes’ men were suspected to be behind the attack as they were responsible of similar attacks in the past. Alhaji Danburan said the number of cows stolen in the state by cattle rustlers from 2013 to date was 17500 while over 200 herds men were killed by the rustlers.
