Taraba APC task Assembly on new speaker

Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday challenged members of the state House of Assembly to elect a new speaker or face sanctions from their constituencies.

State chairman of the party, Alhaji Ardo Jika, who made this known while speaking to journalists in Jalingo, regretted that for the first time in the history of the country, the house adjourned sine die without date of resumption just to protect the interest of the former speaker, who is not even a member of the house.

“In the situation we have find ourselves, Taraba electorates should not just sit and watch what is happening. The laws of this country are meant for us including members of the House and we must operate within the confines of the law.

“We are calling on the members of the House to reconvene and elect a new speaker. We are not lobbying for anybody, but we want a leadership in the house. There must be checks and balances, but it’s unfortunate that members of the House have become subservient at the dictates of the governor,” he said.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
