  The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has awarded the 2020 Research Grants to five institutions that participated in the Telecommunications-based Research Innovations initiated by the Commission. NCC made this known via a publication on its official website. The Commission awarded fifty-four million, seven hundred and five thousand, six hundred and thirty two Naira, fourteen kobo (₦54,705,632.14) to the selected institutions. President Muhammadu Buhari had directed the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority, NSIA, to review the progress so far and carry out value engineering of the project in pursuit of optimised implementation and delivery. There is a fresh move by prominent indigenes of Yangtu Special Development Area to ensure the return of its four wards to Takum Local Government, Taraba Truth and Facts gathered. The move which started early this year has seen many prominent members of Yangtu SDA renewing their commitments to ensure the Federal Government to restore Takum local government to its original boundary as at 1996 which has these affected communities inclusive. The four wards described as orphan communities are Bika, Kwambai, Jenuwa Kogi and Jenuwa Gida with an estimated population of over One Hundred Thousand people was initially in Takum Local Government area until 1996.   Three out of five women abducted along Takum-Tor Damisa road in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State have regained freedom. The five women, who are traders, were traveling from Takum town to Tor Damisa in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State when they were abducted and taken to the forest. Daily Trust gathered that three of the five women abducted four weeks ago regained freedom after ransom was paid. A resident of Takum, Musa Dauda, told Daily Trust that the five women who are Yoruba from one of the southwest states are living in Takum town. He said the two other women are still being held by the kidnappers suspected to be Tiv militia. Dauda said suspected Tiv militia were responsible for most of the kidnapping and armed robbery incidents along Takum-Wukari road, Takum-Katsina Ala road and Takum-Chanchangi road. Gunmen have killed two soldiers and injured at least three others around Kofai Amadu in Takum, Taraba State. The Chairman of the Local Government Area, Mr Shiban Tikari, who confirmed the sad incident to our correspondent, said that the gunmen had blocked the road and were trying to kidnap some persons when the military men who were on routine patrol of the troubled axis ran into them. Tikari said that on sighting the unsuspecting military vehicle, the gunmen opened fire killing one soldier instantly and left others with gunshot injuries. ‘I can confirm to you that the armed men that I suspect to be of Tiv extraction attacked a military patrol van and killed one of the soldiers instantly while the others who sustained injuries are receiving treatment as we speak,’ he said. ‘It is so sad that the security in this axis has continued to deteriorate despite all the efforts been put in place. Chairman, Takum local government council of Taraba State, Shiban Tikari, narrowly escaped death early Saturday morning as armed militia opened fire on his vehicle. DAILY POST reports that the attack, which took place in Dogo-Gawa village of the council, however, led to the gruesome killing of his police orderly. The deceased policeman is of the 67 Mobile Police Squadron, located in the council. In another related development, police in Wukari council of the State were reported to have foiled kidnap attempt in Choku village of the council, with a heavy exchange of gunshots between them and the bandits. Takum and Wukari councils, located in the southern geopolitical zone of the State, have in recent time being under severe attacks. Property worth millions of Naira have been destroyed by a storm that sacked residents of Wukari community in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. The incident which occurred Wednesday night as observed by DAILY POST has forced some of the victims to relocate to other communities. A visit to some of the affected areas by our state correspondent reveals a community begging for help in the aftermath of a disaster. One of the victims who gave his name as Majesty Tukura said their utmost need now “is for the government to come out and assist us with roofing sheets in order for us to repair our houses.” Another victim who passionately called on both the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) , to wade in, said the situation has resulted in untold hardship on the affected persons.   Two policemen have been killed by some gunmen in Taraba. The deceased who are mobile police officers were shot while on duty at a checkpoint in Dogongawa, along KatsinaAla -Takum road, in Takum local government area of the state. The council chairman of Takum LGA, Shiban Tikari confirmed the attack. According to him, “The gunmen came on motorcycles, through the back of the central primary school, Dogongawa. “ They opened fire on the two policemen, killed them, and took away their rifles.” At the time of filing this report, the spokesman of the state police command, DSP David Misal was yet to confirm the report. The non-indigenous staff of the Taraba Publishing Company Limited, Sun Rise, has dragged the Taraba State Government to the National Industrial Court, Jos Division over its failure to pay 77 months’ salary arrears of 18 staff, amounting to N73, 257, 715,40. In their statement of claim, the workers alleged that 18 of them who are not from Taraba were denied salaries since the company stopped operation in 2014. According to them, they were also discriminated against on the basis of their states of origin. The suit is between the 18 staff who serve as claimants and the executive governor of Taraba State (1st defendant), Taraba State Government (2nd defendant), The Attorney- General of Taraba State (3rd defendant), the Taraba State Commissioner of Information (4th defendant) and the Taraba Publishing Company Limited (5th defendant).   Kefas Agbu, PDP chairman in Taraba on Friday appealed to the state’s striking workers to suspend the action. He told newsmen in Jalingo that what was required over the action on the demand for the payment of N30,000 minimum wage and other welfare packages was dialogue. Agbu expressed regret that the workers’ strike had virtually closed all economic activities in the state. “I appeal to labour unions in the state to suspend the industrial action and embrace further dialogue in resolving the matter. “I know that the delay in the implementation is due to other competing demands from key sectors of the economy, which the state government is fixing,’’ he said. The industrial action has enjoyed total compliance with both public and private sector workers, including banks and motor parks shutting down their services.
