Not IinaugurationPic Jalingo-Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State has inaugurated Transition and Stock-Taking Committees for the purpose of proper implementation and smooth transition from his first tenure to the second. Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, bigwigs in the state, including the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Peter Diah, and National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, North East, Gebon Kataps, are members of the committee. The 46-man committee has Amb. Idris Waziri as Chairman  while the state Commissioner for Works, Irimiya Hammanjulde is Chairman of the stock taking committee. The two committees, whose work began on Wednesday after inauguration, is to ensure that the transition process is hitch-free. Wealthy individuals and senior civil servants residents of Jalingo metropolis are now living in fear as a result of increasing rate of kidnapping targeted at them. Daily Trust gathered that many senior civil servants and wealthy individuals were kidnapped in the state capital in recent weeks. areas of the state in recent months resulting in panic among wealthy individuals who relocated to Jalingo recently. Daily Trust finding revealed that large scale farmers, cattle merchants and businessmen from Gassol, Bali, Ardo Kola and Gashaka local government areas have relocated to Jalingo because of activities of kidnappers. It was further gathered that between 2017 and 2018 more than 54 wealthy individuals were abducted in Mutumbiyu, Chul, Kungana, Serti, Garba Chede, Tella, Sabon gida Lallame, Garin Abba among other villages in Bali, Gassol, Ardo Kola, Takum and Gashaka local government areas. Former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) chairman in Taraba State, Joel Daniel, has been freed by the unknown gunmen who kidnapped him. The former NBA chair was whisked away by his abductors In the early hours of Wednesday at his house located at Mayo Dasa area of Jalingo. The manner of his abduction got residents in his area agitated as the evil men came firing gunshots into the air to scare them away. However, a member of his family, Thankgod Andetarang, confirmed to newsmen that Daniel was later released by his abductors on Thursday evening. Pupils in 28 primary schools across 13 local government areas of Taraba state have express their excitement over the provision  of new learning facilities to public primary schools in Taraba state. Taraba state government in conjunction with Universal Basic Education Commission UBEC have distributed 2520  plastic Chairs and Tables to 28 primary schools in the state to ease the difficult situation been experience by pupils and make learning attractive to children in the state. The project    which cost 72 million naira is funded by UBEC with 25 per cent counterpart  fund from Taraba state government. Gunmen on Wednesday abducted Barr. Joel Ubandoma, the immediate past chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Jalingo branch at his residence in Mayo Dassa area of Jalingo, the state capital. A family source disclosed to our correspondent that Ubandoma was picked in his house in Mayo-Dassa, Jalingo at about 1: am on Wednesday. Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, David Misal, who also confirmed the incident, assured that the force had already sprung into action, gathering intelligence to ensure the safe release of the lawyer. Governor Darius Ishaku has approved the composition of transition and stock taking committees to ensure a smooth transition. A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Hassan Mijinyawa says Ambassador Idris Waziri would serve as the Chairman of the transition committee. Members are Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Abel Peter Diah, Edward Baraya, Anthony Jellason, Gebon Kataps, Victor Bala Kona,and Simon Dogari. Other members are Yusuf Nya Akirikwen, Jesse Ashumate, Innocent Vakkai, Johannes Jigem, David Ishaya, Alhassan Hamman Gassol, Lois Emmanuel, Simon Angyu, Aminu Jika and Alfred Yahaya Kobiba. On Friday 22nd March 2019, the state working committee met to reflect on the conduct of the General Elections held in Taraba State on 9th March, 2019. At the end it resolved as follows. 1. The elections which took place throughout the state had woefully failed to meet the minimum standard for the conduct of free, fair and credible elections contrary to the assertion by the Taraba State Government. The elections were characterized and marred by massive rigging, non-usage of Card Readers, ballot box stuffing and snatching, outright allocation of votes, intimidation and physical harassment of APC agents across the state. 2. In particular, elections did not properly take place in some Local Government Areas like, Wukari, Donga, Takum, Kurmi, Ussa and Zing, where APC agents were physically molested and chased away, while votes were fictitiously allocated in favour of PDP and imposed on the INEC Returning Officers, most of whom had already been threatened and compromised. ...

Community and Social Development Projects (CSDP) has provided one hundred and nineteen manual hand pump boreholes to  communities across the 16 local government areas of Taraba state. in a bid to make sure that people in the rural areas also have access to portable water supply. Stated this at a Press briefing in Jalingo  said that the they also sunk  six solar- motorised boreholes, line wells, surface tanks for rain water in remote areas where drilling is nearly impossible. He lamented over situation where people have to share water in  ponds with cattle and other animals in some communities  in some parts of the state. At least one person has been confirmed dead and houses burnt in Ussa Local Government Area of Taraba state ahead of the supplementary election in the Ussa State Constituency Assembly seat on Friday evening. Vice Chairman of Ussa Local Government Area,  Hon. Rikupki  Joshua, confirmed this development in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Saturday. “To the best of my knowledge,  one person was killed,  scores were injured and houses were burnt in Ussa yesterday (Friday). “But the situation is now calm and the supplementary election scheduled to hold in some units in the constituency is going on as planned. “We condemn this violence and hope that those behind the unfortunate development will see politics as service to the people and not a do or die affair,” he said. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has declared the PDP Candidate Timothy Anderifun, Winner of the just concluded supplementary state constituency rerun election in Ussa local government area of Taraba state. Announcing the result before party agents, journalists, election observers, security agencies and party supporters, the returning officer Mister Fave Bulus stated that the PDP candidate, Timothy Anderifun scored 9,434 votes to defeat Mister Kurutsi Yakubu of APGA who polled 8,057. The PDP candidate is the incumbent member representing the local government area at the Taraba state house of Assembly. The Nigerian Army says it has handed over 44 suspects arrested for electoral violence to the police in Taraba State. Addressing journalists in Gashak Local Government Area of the state on Monday, the Commanding Officer of 20 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Adamu, alleged that the suspects were intercepted with dangerous weapons on them. According to him, the arrest was made possible following the military operations during and after the 2019 general elections in the state. Items recovered from the suspects include Two Dane guns, six machetes, four buses, 42 arrows, one live cartridge of 7.62mm special among others. Taraba state Commissioner for Information and Culture, Simon Dogari has promised  that the state government would offset medical bills of victims of the post election violence perpetrated by miscreants on supporters of the governor Darius Ishaku who were celebrating his reelection. Taraba state government has lifted curfew it imposed following violence in Jalingo, the state capital and its environ. This was contained in a statement signed and issued on Tuesday by Mallam Hassan Mijinyawa, the Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, Darius Ishaku. ADVERTISEMENT The statement noted that the government was satisfied with the peace in Jalingo and all part of the state and therefore lifted the curfew which was imposed on Monday 11, March, 2019 following violence in Jalingo. The Center For Peace Education and Community Development (CEPEACECODE), a non-governmental organisation based in Jalingo has petitioned the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) over it’s neglect of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Taraba and Adamawa states.  In a petition signed by the convener of CEPEACECODE Dr Joseph Gimba and addressed to the Director General (DG) of NEMA, Mustapha Maihaja, Gimba alleged that the IDPs in Taraba have not received any support from NEMA for a long time while those on Adamawa last received food items about two months ago and have not received non food items for several months.  Gimba urged the NEMA DG to take urgent steps to address the challenges of the IDPs in line with the mandate of agency for the sake of humanity.  “After a trip to the locations of IDPs in Taraba and Adamawa states and interview with the relevant leaderships of the IDPs and some of the IDPs, we discovered that NEMA is deliberately...

A group, Concern Taraba Citizens Forum, has alleged that the post election violence that has trailed the re-election of Governor Darius Ishaku in Taraba state was caused by members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The group in a statement sent to Legit.ng on Sunday, March 17 and signed by its coordinators Kefas Bulus and Muhammad Umar, said the state government should take responsibility for the violence that engulfed the state capital, Jalingo, after the elections. Taraba state Governor, Darius Ishaku has said that he sees his second coming as an opportunity for him to heal all the ethnic, socio-political and religious wounds in the state. He dedicated the election to Taraba people who, he said, turned out in numbers to decide in his favour.
