Panic in Jalingo as kidnappers target wealthy individuals, senior civil servants



Wealthy individuals and senior civil servants residents of Jalingo metropolis are now living in fear as a result of increasing rate of kidnapping targeted at them.
Daily Trust gathered that many senior civil servants and wealthy individuals were kidnapped in the state capital in recent weeks.

Daily Trust finding revealed that large scale farmers, cattle merchants and businessmen from Gassol, Bali, Ardo Kola and Gashaka local government areas have relocated to Jalingo because of activities of kidnappers.
It was further gathered that between 2017 and 2018 more than 54 wealthy individuals were abducted in Mutumbiyu, Chul, Kungana, Serti, Garba Chede, Tella, Sabon gida Lallame, Garin Abba among other villages in Bali, Gassol, Ardo Kola, Takum and Gashaka local government areas.
It was gathered that more than N120million was paid in ransom
The rate in kidnapping in villages across the state, Daily Trust gathered had forced many to relocate to Jalingo in the last two years.
A cattle merchant, who will not like his name mentioned, said he was forced to relocated from Gassol local government area to Jalingo because of activities of kidnappers last year adding that now, Jalingo is no longer safe.
Meanwhile, the state police commissioner, Alkasim Sanusi has assured residents of Jalingo and Taraba state in general that his command was doing its best to flush kidnappers and other criminals out the state
He also paraded 16 kidnappers and cattle rustlers arrested by the police in its effort to rid the state of crimes.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
