The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Sen. Aisha Alhassan, on Sunday said the Federal Government had released N150 billion for women entrepreneurship development in Nigeria. Alhassan, who is on an official visit to Taraba, told newsmen in Jalingo that the money was part of the N500 billion Social Protection Fund. According to her, the fund has been deposited at the Bank of Industry (BoI) for women entrepreneurs to access. She said out of the fund, N1.6 billion was earmarked for micro finance scheme for women. The minister said that sensitisation campaign on how to access the fund had already begun and that during her visit to the state she had sensitised women groups on how to access the facility. Alhassan also revealed that the National Gender Policy was currently under review to enhance inclusiveness and participation of women in all spheres of government. Dr Abdulai Kaikai, Chief Field Officer, UNICEF Field Office Bauchi, has confirmed the release of N101 million counterpart fund by Taraba Government for UNICEF-supported health and education programmes in the State. Kaikai confirmed the release of the fund at a two-day mid-year review meeting on the implementation of Taraba Government/UNICEF programme for the first half of 2016 in Jalingo on Saturday. This is our first joint review in Taraba since UNICEF adopted a new planning process of aligning with the state planning process. Through this process, UNICEF has capitalised on the strength and comparative advantages of the different MDAs toward increasing the UNICEF-supported activities’ impact through coherent and accountability of implementing agencies’’, he said. The Plateau and Taraba state governments have agreed to unseat Tarok chiefs installed in occupied communities of Ibbi local government area of Taraba State following years of conflicts. Daily Trust had on May 31st published a story indicating that ethnic Tarok militia of Plateau State origin had sacked 13 villages in Ibbi local government area of Taraba State and installed their local chiefs. The chairman of the Langtang south local government area in Plateau State, Hon. Nicholas Vongsing, had then said he was communicating with the local government chairman of Ibbi and that both had planned to visit the villages in question to see things for themselves.
