Tension In Taraba Over Missing 295 Cows

Tension has continued to mount between herdsmen and Jukun youths in Takum local government of Taraba State over a tussle for ownership of about 295 herds of cows allegedly rustled from Manya village of the area.

Investigation in the area revealed that the dispute began on June 17, 2016 when five Jukun youths led by one Titi, a resident of Takum, invaded a Fulani settlement in Manya village and allegedly carted away about 295 cows belonging to one Alhaji Muhammadu Umaru.

It was further gathered that Isiaka Umaru who took care of the cows before the arrival of five youths, raised an alarm and informed the Fulani leaders in the area who later reported the matter to the Takum police division.

LEADERSHIP also learnt that the police in Takum later traced the cows to a place near the Mammy Market at the Army Barracks in Takum under the custody of Titi.

Confirming the incident, the commissioner of police Mr. Yakubu Babas said he ordered the transfer of the case from Takum to the state headquarters because of the sensitive nature of the case for proper investigation.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
