Plateau and Taraba to unseat Tarok chiefs installed in Ibbi

The Plateau and Taraba state governments have agreed to unseat Tarok chiefs installed in occupied communities of Ibbi local government area of Taraba State following years of conflicts.
Daily Trust had on May 31st published a story indicating that ethnic Tarok militia of Plateau State origin had sacked 13 villages in Ibbi local government area of Taraba State and installed their local chiefs.

The chairman of the Langtang south local government area in Plateau State, Hon. Nicholas Vongsing, had then said he was communicating with the local government chairman of Ibbi and that both had planned to visit the villages in question to see things for themselves.
However, our correspondent has come across a secret peace agreement signed by the two local government chairmen agreeing to unseat the installed local chiefs in occupied areas.
The agreement which was signed on the 2nd June 2016, stated, “Due to the incessant killings, adoption and attacking of innocent people in Dampar, Sarkin Kudu and Isinyi villages in Ibbi local government area which shares boundary with Plateau State which started way back in above mentioned districts from 2012 to date, it is now agreed between the chairmen of Langtang south local government and Ibbi local government to uplift those installed local chiefs in occupied areas.”
Hon. Vongsing however told Daily Trust that they were yet to visit the communities to verify whether there were Tarok local chiefs installed in the area, adding, “Our colleagues from Taraba insisted that we sign a peace pact even when we told them we wanted to visit the areas first and verify for ourselves but since they insisted that the governor wanted the agreement signed, we entered the peace pact.

Taraba State University Joins ASUU Ultimatum to 21 Universities Over 2025 Agreement

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University (TSU) chapter, has joined 20 other state-owned universities placed on a 14-day ultimatum over the alleged non-implementation of key provisions of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement. The ultimatum was issued following resolutions reached at ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the University of Abuja, where the union expressed concern over what it described as the “haphazard implementation” of the agreement. Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
