Taraba State University Joins ASUU Ultimatum to 21 Universities Over 2025 Agreement

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University (TSU) chapter, has joined 20 other state-owned universities placed on a 14-day ultimatum over the alleged non-implementation of key provisions of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement.

The ultimatum was issued following resolutions reached at ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the University of Abuja, where the union expressed concern over what it described as the “haphazard implementation” of the agreement.

ASUU warned that the affected universities could face industrial action if the outstanding issues are not resolved within the 14-day window. The union authorised the affected branches to begin formal processes for strike action should their respective university authorities fail to address the issues.

Taraba State University, Jalingo, was specifically listed among the 21 universities affected by the directive. Other institutions on the list include Nasarawa State University, Gombe State University, Plateau State University, Kaduna State University, Imo State University, Niger Delta University and Enugu State University of Science and Technology.

The latest development comes against the backdrop of a prolonged dispute between ASUU and the Taraba State Government over the welfare and entitlements of university lecturers. In February 2026, the TSU branch resumed an indefinite strike, citing the state government’s failure to take what it described as “concrete and verifiable steps” towards implementing an agreement reached with the union in January 2025.

The dispute has also included demands relating to the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), Professorial Allowance and Earned Academic Allowance (EAA). In June, the Yola Zone of ASUU identified Taraba State University among institutions where such outstanding issues remained unresolved.

The union’s latest ultimatum therefore places renewed pressure on the authorities of Taraba State University and the state government to resolve the outstanding matters before the deadline expires.

ASUU said the 14-day notice is a precondition for the affected branches to commence formal industrial action procedures. The union is expected to reconvene in an emergency session towards the end of August or early September to review developments and determine its next course of action.

For students and parents at Taraba State University, the development raises fresh concerns over possible disruption to academic activities if the outstanding issues are not resolved within the stipulated period.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state.
