Sahara Reporters reported that an escort vehicle belonging to the Nigerian Army has reportedly run into traders and bystanders at Peva Market in Chanchanji Local Government Area of Taraba State, killing seven people and injuring scores of others.
The incident reportedly occurred at the market after members of the military escort team allegedly became intoxicated.
According to reports, the Army vehicle lost control and ploughed into traders and other people at the busy market, leaving several victims dead and others with varying degrees of injuries.
At least seven people were reportedly killed in the incident, while scores of others sustained injuries.
The injured victims were subsequently rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency medical treatment.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts by SaharaReporters to reach the Nigerian Army for comment were unsuccessful. Its spokesperson, Colonel Onyechi Appolonia Anele, did not answer calls and did not reply to a message sent to her line
