Taraba - Following the rescuing of 17 children from a suspected child trafficker in Taraba state, parents whose children are missing have been encouraged to contact government to identify the minors. Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku called the parents to Jalingo, the state capital, where they must contact the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development for the verification of the children. The call comes after the state police command on Tuesday rescued the abducted children and arrested the suspect. “Describing children are special gift from God who deserve special care and love from the society devoid of any form of abuse or illegal separation from their immediate families as seen in the case of those innocent children.  The government will stand firm in fighting this unwholesome abuse of child right in the state,” a spokesperson of the governor said. The Taraba State Government has been advised to collaborate with the Federal Government to ensure early completion of Mambilla Hydro Power and the Kashimbilla Projects. Addressing newsmen in Jalingo, the State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Bishop Timothy Yahaya, said this would attract tourism and boost the internally generated revenue of the state. Bishop Yahaya explained that the call became necessary in view of the dwindling revenue of the state. THE management of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo, Taraba State, has advised journalists on the need to uphold the standard and code of ethics of their profession by desisting from being used for “dubious purposes.” The hospital management, which made the call yesterday in a press statement made available to journalists, called the attention of media organisations nationwide to an ongoing plan by some few persons to use journalists in the state to run down the hospital management. Citing one of the “negative publications” in one of the national dailies (not in The Guardian), the management expressed dismay at the way and manner some media organisations have dumped the ethic of the noble profession for something else. About 17 children were, on Wednesday, rescued from human traffickers in Taraba State by men of the patrol team of the state police command. The children, aged between eight and 12, were rescued from a man whose name and age were not disclosed by the police in Ibi Local Government Area of the state while allegedly attempting to take them across River Benue to Plateau State. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed additional relief materials worth over N5 million to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps in Mutum-Biyu, near Jalingo. The director general of the agency, Alhaji Muhammed Sani-Sidi yesterday presented the items to the IDPs’ camps in Tudun Haske, Sabongari, Anguwar Tike, Kan-Kwana and Bayan Kasuwa in Gassol local government areas of Taraba State.
