Taraba State Police Command has arrested one Munda Bala for killing his girlfriend, Imbajuri Ambisi. The 31-year-old suspect, a native of Donga Local Government Area reportedly conspired with his two friends to kill his girlfriend It was learnt that they burnt the victim to ashes before burying her in a bush. Taraba State Police Spokesperson, David Misal while parading the suspects told newsmen that a manhunt has already been launched to arrest the other fleeing suspects. While parading the suspects, Bala confessed that he killed his girlfriend because he got jealous after she left him for wealthy men. He blamed the sad act on jealousy and hardship. He told newsmen, “I fell in love with Imbajuri Ambisi. She became my girlfriend; I got her pregnant and she delivered a baby boy and killed him after seven months. “This got me angry and I couldn’t tell anyone. Taraba State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Innocent Vakkai, has said that seven local government areas in the state are affected by Lassa fever. He identified the affected LGAs as Takum, Donga, Ibi, Gassol, Jalingo, Ardo Kola and Bali. He made the disclosure during a one-day sensitisation workshop organised by the state directorate of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Jalingo.  He said already, 25 suspected cases of the deadly disease have been reported out of which six were confirmed and four deaths recorded in the state. In her address, the state NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Florence Yaakugh, urged members to maintain high level of hygiene and cleanliness at all times to avoid infection.  She also called on the corps medical team to ensure that standard rules of protection was followed in the course of their duties and also refrain from taking hygiene issues for granted while discharging their professional duties. A medical doctor with the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo has tested positive to Lassa fever, management of the hospital has confirmed. Acting Head, Clinical Service of the hospital, Dr Ahmed Jatau, disclosed this on Tuesday,  The PUNCH  reports. Jatau explained that six suspected cases of Lassa fever were reported with four deaths, adding that the affected medical doctor was currently undergoing treatment at Iruwa Specialist Hospital in Edo State. "We have sent 10 samples to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control for testing. We had six positive cases out of which four have died even before their result came in. "For the remaining two cases, one has been discharged while the other, who is our own staff, has been transferred to Iruwa Specialist Hospital for further treatment because we don't have a dialysis unit here. The Supreme Court has fixed February 7, 2020, for judgment on the appeal by a former governor of Taraba State, Jolly Nyame, challenging his conviction and sentencing to 12 years’ imprisonment with N100m fine for N1.6bn corruption charges. A five-man panel of the apex court comprise of  Justice Mary Peter-Odili, as the Presiding Justice, Justices Dattijo Muhammad, John Okoro, Centus Nweze, and Fatima Augie, fixed the date for judgment after hearing the appeal on Thursday. Nyame’s appeal was against the November 16, 2018 judgment of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal which had affirmed the ex-governor’s conviction by the high court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the FCT high court had on May 30, 2018, convicted Nyame on a total of 27 out of the 41 corruption charges involving about N1.6bn preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.       Six months after he was re-arrested, the police have commenced moves to file criminal charges against Taraba kidnap kingpin, Bala Hamisu, popularly known as Wadume, and his accomplices.  The PUNCH gathered that the Force legal department may next week file charges against Wadume, Captain Tijjani Balarabe, two dismissed policemen and about eight members of the kidnap gang at the Federal High Court, Abuja.  Wadume was allegedly assisted to escape on August 6, 2019, by soldiers attached to Battalion 93, Takum, Taraba State, led by Balarabe after the police team which arrested him came under attack from the troops.  Three policemen and two civilians were killed during the incident while five other police officers were injured.  The fugitive kidnap kingpin was re-arrested two weeks after he escaped from police custody at his hideouts at Layin Mai Allo Hotoro area of Kano State following a massive manhunt launched by the poli...

Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Yutaka Kikuta and Hope Afresh Foundation today signed a grand contract of $197, 736 for the establishment of a facility for the processing of Sesame seeds in Taraba State. Hope Afresh Foundation is an initiative of Barr Anna Ishaku, wife of the Governor of Taraba State, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku which has done a lot in empowering women and youths. Sesame production is one of the crops whose growth is being promoted by the Ishaku administration. The fund is being provided by the Japanese government under that country’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects. The Sesame processing project is an initiative of the Hope Afresh Foundation and will be executed in collaboration with Toyota Tsusho Corporation. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Barr. The new Assistant Inspector General of Police in Zone 3, Haliru Gwandu, has met with the police commands in Adamawa, Taraba and Gombe states, which make up the zone. The meeting, it was gathered, was meant to fine-tune strategies towards tackling kidnapping, banditry and other crimes in the zone. Chairman   of Gassol Local Government Council in Taraba State, Tanko Maikarfi, has called on the state government to empower local hunters and vigilante personnel to tackle kidnapping and other crimes in the state. Maikarfi, a former deputy speaker of Taraba House of Assembly told journalists in his office that kidnapping and armed robbery were on the rise because security personnel lacked knowledge of the hideouts of the criminals. He said the tension that arose between Tiv and Jukun in Dan-Anacha over the change of name of teh village to Kwararafa by Governor Darius Ishaku  had been brought under control. Four persons have been confirmed dead in Taraba State just as Kaduna State announced the death of 36-year-old man on Monday following the outbreak of Lassa fever in the country. According to the Commissioner for Health in Taraba State, Dr. Innocent Vakkai said that the ministry has recorded 15 suspected cases of Lassa fever, with only five, found to be positive. “Four out of these five people that test positive to Lassa fever has died  as most of the cases came from six local government areas of Bali, Gashaka, Gassol, Ardo-Kola, Jalingo and Ibi.” He disclosed that the state government has activated its surveillance system for more case detection and proper treatment. “Efforts are ongoing to create awareness for residents of the state to enlighten them about the symptoms of the disease.
