Taraba Security Summit Report Presented to Governor Kefas

The Executive Summary of the Taraba State Zonal Security Summit Report has been presented to the Executive Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, as part of renewed efforts to strengthen security, peace and sustainable development across the state.

The report was presented by the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Kizito Bonzena, during a ceremony at the Exco Chamber of the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo.
The committee responsible for the exercise was constituted by Governor Kefas during an enlarged security meeting and chaired by the Speaker, with the Head of GSM serving as Alternate Chairman.

Following its inauguration, the committee convened a plenary meeting to review its mandate and immediately commenced work on the assignment.

The committee divided Taraba into three zones for the conduct of the security summits. The Northern Zone summit was held in Jalingo on the 22nd, the Central Zone summit took place in Bali on the 24th, while the Southern Zone summit was held on the 26th.

The summits were designed to take security discussions directly to communities, particularly areas identified as security hotspots, in line with the Governor's directive.

During the engagements, the committee listened to residents, documented their concerns, identified security challenges peculiar to each zone, mapped security hotspots and collected recommendations from community members and other stakeholders.

According to the committee, the approach was intended to provide the state government with a bottom-to-top understanding of Taraba's security situation and complement ongoing government efforts to tackle insecurity across the state.

The committee subsequently collated the findings from the three zonal engagements and produced a detailed report for the consideration of the state government.

Presenting the Executive Summary, Speaker Bonzena submitted the report to Governor Kefas for consideration and further necessary action.

The presentation marks another step in the state's efforts to develop a more comprehensive and community-driven approach to security, with the ultimate goal of creating a safer environment for residents, investment and sustainable development.

The committee emphasised that security remains fundamental to development, stressing the need for continued collaboration between government, security agencies, traditional institutions, communities and other stakeholders in building a peaceful and prosperous Taraba State.
