NAFDAC Urges Public to Verify Food Items.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, in Taraba State has urged the public to verify food items they buy by checking for the expiry date.

The Taraba State NAFDAC Coordinator, Joseph Asikpo stated this in his office in Jalingo while displaying some confiscated food items and drugs from the Mambilla Plateau.

Mr. Joseph said in line with the mandate of NAFDAC which is to safeguard the health of the Nation, the Agency has embarked on surveillance and mop up activities with the aim of identifying locations of packing stores and warehouses where banned, substandard, fake, unregistered and expired or regulated products are stored, distributed or sold.

While briefing taravoices reporter on their recent activities, the State Coordinator said on 24th and 25th May this year, Officers of the Agency carried out a mop up of banned and unregistered products in Gembu on the Mambilla Plateau area of the State, saying products worth Fifteen Million Naira were evacuated from hidden packing stores.

Confiscated drugs include; the banned Tramadol formulations in 100mg, Vaka Dol 50 tablets, Analgin injections among others.

Joseph stressed that the public should stop the commonly used but banned products such as Crusader soap, Mekako, Amira and other Mercury containing products which are causative agents for Skin Cancer and Kidney problems.

He further expressed dismay over the poor storage of Sachet water and drinks as well as the unending habit of the fast food owners selling expired soft drinks, adding that the agency has sanctioned some individuals in this regards and will not leave anybody go free if guilty of endangering human lives.

He also appreciated the security agencies and other stakeholders for supporting their activities, pointing out that collectively, hands should be on deck in the fight against counterfeit, fake, substandard and expired products in Taraba State.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
