I paid workers’ salaries before Sallah – Ishaku

Taraba State governor, Arch. Darius Ishaku, has disclosed that he paid salaries of all categories of workers in the state to enable them celebrate the Eid-el-Fitr festivities with joy and happiness.

Ishaku, who spoke to through the permanent secretary Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in an interview, said since he assumed office, he had gone extra mile to pay workers at the end of every month.

“To be honest with you, the governor is a man who has the state at heart, most of the time, he uses his personal relationship with UBA top management official to solicit for over draft before paying salaries.

“As we are all aware, over 26 states of the federation are owing their workers, but as I speak with you, Taraba State is up-to-date, apart from the two months that we are owing council workers,” he said.

He explained that what the state always got from the federation account at the end of every month could not pay one quarter of workers in the state.

“Then the state usually gets N2.4 billion from the federation account, but now is around N1.2 billion which cannot settle the salary bills of the state” he stressed.

He revealed that the recent committee set up by the state to verify civil servants in the state have uncovered over 2, 000 ghost workers smuggled into the payroll of the local governments.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
