Post Elections Crisis, Governor Ishaku in Peace Talks With Religious Leaders


In view of the recent crisis which broke out in the state capital after the declaration of his victory at the just concluded governorship elections, Governor Darius Ishaku today met with religious leaders at the Government House chambers, Jalingo, to discuss possible options to ensure peace is restored.
FB_IMG_1552660227898The religious bodies were led by the Muslim Council Taraba State chapter and the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Taraba State chapter.
The Governor called on the religious bodies to intervene by talking to their followers on the need to continue living together in peace.
Ishaku said he saw no reason why anyone should pick up arms to injure or even kill his fellow brother for sheer differences in political parties or religious belief.
Governor Ishaku implored the religious leaders to prayerfully teach the preeminence of peace in their sermons so as to put an end to stay further violent occurrences.
He, however, called on Tarabans to refuse any form of manipulation from anyone or group of persons who would want to use them to disrupt the peace that has long been enjoyed in the State.
Responding, the Grand khadi of the Customary Court of Sharia Justice and Chairman of the Muslim Council in Taraba, Ahmad Mohamed Bose said this would be part of the sermon for Friday prayers.
He said that it was not contained in their Holy book that anyone should burn down houses or kill others and called on parents to call their children to order so as to put an end to the unwanted killings and destructions.
Bose stressed that elections had come and gone and a winner had emerged hence, there was no need to cause unwarranted crises.
In the same vein, Rev Solomon Innocent, Chairman of CAN Taraba State chapter, said they had resolved to go back to churches to speak on peace and further meet with people at ward levels on the need to abstain from actions that could stair up crisis.
He urged politicians to educate their followers to avoid politics with bitterness and ensure everything is done with the fear of God as no office is worth the blood of any human being.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
