Unemployment: Women Affairs Minister Wants Nigerian Youths to be Self-reliant


Worried by the high rate of youth’s unemployment in the country, the minister of women affairs, Senator Aisha Jummai Alhassan has advocated self-reliant principle among Nigerian youths to break the jinx of poverty in the society.

The minister who spoke in Abuja yesterday through her special assistant, Hajia Zainab Ibrahim after she received an award from a Jalingo-based non-governmental organisation, Aunty-Zee Foundation, also called on youths to look inwards so as to rediscover themselves, which according to her, would reduce unemployment and over dependency on government jobs.

“To solve the unemployment problems in the society, we should encourage our youths to be self-reliant. They should look inward to discover what they are made off, which would enable them engage in profitable ventures and break the jinx of poverty and over dependency on government jobs”, she said.

Zainab also noted that Taraba State has remained one of the most backward states in the federation, adding that what the state needs is liberation from poverty among the people.

She however called on the privileged in the society to lend a helping hand to the less privileged and by so doing bridge the existing gap between the lowest class, the medium and the high class in the society.

Earlier, while presenting the award, the chairman of the foundation, Abdulhamid Abdullahi had explained that the award was meant to motivate Hajia Zainab for more developmental efforts in Taraba State.

Abdullahi stated that she has always remained a woman of high integrity, hardworking, sympathy for the masses and has contributed towards the development of the less privileged in the state.

He continued: “She has donated drugs to patients in hospitals, who cannot afford to buy drugs while in the hospitals. She has been donating food items to orphanage homes in the state to cater for their upkeeps. Also she visited prison yards to donate materials to inmates and has provided assistance to the less privileged in the society”

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
