Prison official docked over false information on Taraba governor

A chief inspector of Prison, Usman Ajuji, who allegedly gave false information to the Chairman of Special Presidential Investigation Panel (SPIP) has been remanded in prison. Ajuji, who is with Yobe Command of the Nigeria Prisons Service, allegedly gave false information concerning Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State.

The police prosecutor, Celestine Okpong told an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6 that the ‘whistleblower’, who was charged with giving false information with intent to mislead a public officer, informed the chairman of SPIP, Okoi Obono-Obla, on June 7 that he had reliable information that there were bags containing money in local and foreign currencies in the Wuse Zone 1 residence of the Taraba governor.

However, during investigation and operation by the SPIP in the residence, nothing of such was found, the court was told. The offence was said to have contravened the provision of Section 140 of the Penal Code.

The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charge. Following his plea, the Magistrate, Ahmed Indajiwo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. He ordered that pending the fulfilment of the bail condition, the defendant should be remanded at Keffi prisons.

The magistrate thereafter adjourned the case to July 2 for hearing.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
