One hundred and fifty women have been trained on Shea butter processing in Taraba state. The training program was organized by Nigerian Export Promotion Council to train women on the best practices in handling and processing Shea nut and butter to meet international market standard.

In his address at the training, the Regional Coordinator, North_East, Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Mr. Andy Ambikputen said Nigeria is now the leading producer of Shea nut and butter in the world He said there is also a growing demand for the commodity from Nigeria at the international market, especially in the United States, European Union countries and Asia.

This, he said, has made it necessary for the council to train more Nigerians engaged in the business to enhance their capacity. Mr.Ambikupten explained that the training program was designed to develop the skills and technical knowledge of the women in Shea nut and Shea butter processing business. He said the training is targeted at women to encourage them to participate more in business activities.
In his address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Commerce and Industry, Alhaji Aliyu Njeke, commended the council for organizing the training and urged the participants to put what they learnt into practice.
He said many women in the state are in the business of Shea nut and Shea butter processing pointing out that the training will equip them with technical knowledge to process the product in line with international standards.
