Taraba Speaker Commends Buhari, Ishaku for Ending Attacks in Some Parts of Jalingo

The Speaker, Taraba state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abel Peter Diah whole heartedly commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the order he gave to security men to end the violence that happened in some parts of the state’s capital some few days ago.


The Speaker made this remarks today (21st June 2019) at the Hallowed Chambers of the state’s House of Asembly Complex during the public hearing of a bill for a law to amend the prohibition of the act of kidnapping and abduction.
He said that the President’s intervention was very decisive and yielded immediate result and thanked God that peace has gradually returned to the affected areas.


He also commended the Executive Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku for his very quick response in quelling the Fulani herdsmen/Kona crises and applauded the security apparatus for their swift action in bringing the ugly incidence under control.
He said that there can be no alternative for peaceful co-existence and a crime free society, if meaningful positive development must take place in our state and calls on all Tarabans to pursue peace by all means to allow the government of Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku provide the needed dividends of democracy and good governance for our dear state.
Abel Diah revealed that in pursuance of a crime free society in the state with particular interest in arresting the menace of kidnapping and abduction of persons which recently has become a common phenomenon in the state, the Taraba state House of Assembly seeks to amend “the Taraba state Kidnap and Abduction (Prohibition) law, 2010 (law No. 6)” to profer stiffer punishment for offenders.
He said that the amendment is intended to cover section 4, section 7 and section 12 respectively.
In the sought amendment, offenders would now suffer death sentence instead of 20 years imprisonment, collaborators with offenders would now suffer life imprisonment instead of 14 years imprisonment, while persons that conceal information about kidnappers and abductors will now suffer 20 years imprisonment without no option of fine.
The Speaker said the public hearing is meant to offer the general public, NGOs, legal experts, interest groups etc. the opportunity to enrich the amendment by their inputs, to enable the state address this wicked act ravaging our society and urged traditional rulers to know that they have a great responsibility in curtailing armed banditry, kidnapping and abduction by exposing these heinous crime operators in their domain stressing that government will not take it lightly if any traditional ruler is found concealing these criminals in his domain.
“This Honourable House remains committed to making laws for the good people of Taraba state and is determined to support His Excellency, Arc. Darius Dickon Ishaku at all-time in achieving peaceful coexistence in the state through quality legislation and law making”.
The Speaker thanked all present and wished all a successful participation in the public hearing.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
