The chapter Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr Reuben Jonathan, who spoke to Daily Trust, said the need for proper funding of the university by the state government led to the industrial action.
"University is capital intensive and now that the state has delved into, she has to fund it," he said.
Jonathan noted that the state government had refused to pay lecturers five months strike during the infamous national ASUU strike in 2013.
The union leader said after two change in government in the state, the union had only received N100 million of the nearly N500 million owed it.
"Apart from the N100 million given by the state government so far, nothing has come to the university from the state, which is too bad."
He added that the university would not have existed but for the projects executed under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
