IDPs: Tiv Youths Task Gov Ishaku

Worried by the prolonged stay of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in camps across Taraba State, Tiv youths under the aegis of Concerned Taraba Tiv Youth Frontier (CTTYF) yesterday urged Governor Darius Ishaku to facilitate their return to their homes.
In a media briefing in Jalingo, chairman of the group, Mr. Goodman Dan Dahida said children of the IDPs were being denied the right to education and other necessities of life. They called on Ishaku to ensure their quick return to their homes.
“Since January last year, people from central and southern parts of the state were forced out of their homes and are either taking refuge in camps or staying with friends within or outside the state without government giving attention to their plight.
“The prolonged stay of the IDPs who are predominantly farmers outside of their normal places of abode has seriously affected the state’s economy and Governor Ishaku should urgently address this to give them a sense of belonging and ensure food security,” he said.
Dahida blamed past governments in the state for not having the political will to end series of crisis in the state and called on Ishaku to act differently to end incessant killings in the state for peace and development of the state.
The youth leader who alleged that attempts by the displaced persons to return to their homes were being met with opposition from some local chiefs, urged Governor Ishaku to issue a release directing IDPs to return to their respective homes.
“Some persons are today illegally occupying houses and farmlands belonging to the IDPs especially in Gassol and Bali local government areas. Governor Ishaku should order them to vacate such places to allow the original inhabitants to return,” he said.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
