We Urge INEC To Deliver Free, Fair Elections – Taraba Govt

Taraba Govt Denies Sponsoring Illegal Security Outfit

The Taraba State Government has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deliver free, fair and credible elections in the country.

The government made the appeal in a statement issued on Sunday, by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Bala Abu.

While lamenting over the postponement of the polls Abu, however, stated that even if the elections had taken place on Saturday, many voters in the state would not have been able to exercise their franchise because of the late arrival of materials and other logistics problems.

He, therefore, called on INEC to use the next week to make better preparations.

“We urge INEC to take advantage of the postponement to do a better job of conducting a free and fair election.

“We wish to remind the commission that Taraba is a very vast state with terrains that are difficult to access. These facts must be considered in the timing of the allocation and distribution of materials for the election,” Abu stated.

While noting that Commission’s decision to reschedule the general elections has brought untold hardships on residents, the government, however, appealed to people of the state to remain calm and have faith in INEC.

“The postponement has no doubt, taken a huge toll on the resources of our party, its individual members and teeming supporters who had already travelled back to their wards to vote.

“The government wishes to appeal to Tarabans to take this ugly and unexpected development in good faith and to remain calm while INEC is battling to put its house in order. They must not allow the postponement to dampen their enthusiasm,” the statement added.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
