Former Power Minister Mamman Appeals 75-Year Jail Term, Seeks Acquittal

Former Minister of Power Saleh Mamman has appealed his 75-year prison sentence for alleged ₦33.8 billion money laundering, asking the Court of Appeal in Abuja to quash his conviction and discharge and acquit him.

Following the appeal, the Federal High Court in Abuja struck out an EFCC motion seeking permanent forfeiture of properties allegedly linked to Mamman. The EFCC withdrew the motion to allow the appeal process to proceed, and Justice James Omotosho granted the withdrawal.

Mamman’s appeal contains 18 grounds, including claims that his right to fair hearing was violated when judgment was delivered in his absence on May 7, 2026, despite judgment earlier being scheduled for June 9. He also challenged the exclusion of a defence witness, reliance on uncorroborated accomplice evidence, conviction on counts to which he allegedly did not plead, and the finding that funds for the Zungeru and Mambilla hydroelectric projects were diverted for his personal use.

Kefas Bans Livestock Rearing in Residential Areas of Jalingo, Imposes ₦50,000 Fine

The Taraba State Government has banned the rearing of animals in residential areas and other parts of Jalingo, the state capital, as part of efforts to tackle environmental nuisance, safeguard public health, and maintain a cleaner and more orderly city. The government also warned that anyone found violating the directive will face an immediate fine of ₦50,000.
