Flood sacks 15,000 families in Taraba

Flood has rendered over 15000 families homeless in six local government areas of Taraba State, Permanent Secretary, State Emergency management Agency (SEMA)Mr. Nuvalga Danhubu, said.
He told Daily Trust in Jalingo that the flood was as a result of heavy rainfall and water released from the dam in Cameroun.
Danhubu said apart from residential buildings, several farmlands were also destroyed by the flood in Kari-Lamido, Gassol,Lau,Ibbi ,Ardo-Kola,and Wukari Local Government Areas.
He said both the State Emergency Management Agency and the National Emergency management Agency (NEMA) have embarked on sensitization campaign and alerted communities residing by the river bank to relocate.
He noted that relocation of communities from flood prone areas has reduced the level of damage caused by the disaster.
He said the state government has released the sum of N50 million to the agency to provide relief materials for victims of flood disaster in the state.

The permanent secretary added that the federal government also provided relief materials for distribution.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
