The Taraba State House of Assembly on Thursday cleared all the 20 commissioner nominees sent to it by Governor Darius Ishaku for confirmation.

The Speaker of the House, Abel Diah, who spoke shortly after the event, thanked members “for painstakingly going through the exercise”.

Diah said the House was satisfied with the presentations made by the nominees and expressed the hope that they would bring their wealth of experience to bear on the rescue mission in the state.

Diah, who noted that the state needed more vibrant hands to move forward, expressed confidence in the ability of the commissioners to assist the governor to deliver on his campaign promises.

The speaker noted that the nomination and confirmation of the 20 commissioners took into consideration the diversity of the state with a view to ensuring fair representation in the government.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the list comprises 18 men and two women.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
