PDP hails judiciary over Taraba judgement

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has given kudos to Judiciary for, according to it, showing that it remains the window of hope for democracy to strive in this country.

The party's observation followed on Thursday's Supreme Court's judgment affirming the gubernatorial candidate of the party, Darius Ishaku, as the validly elected governor of Taraba State.

According to a statement issued by the Acting National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus, in Abuja on Thursday, the "bold and patriotic approach of the Supreme Court of the land in the various tribunal cases goes a long way to show that it is indeed the last hope of the down trodden."

It added: "Without such landmark judgments from the Supreme Court perhaps there would have been no Nigeria and we salute them for their courage in delivering justice to the people.

"We therefore warn APC and the Federal Government to stop insulting judiciary as there is nowhere in the world that a ruling party go about hauling abuses on the judiciary.

The PDP said all hope is not yet lost for democracy.

According to statement, the Supreme Court ruling not only establishes the judiciary as a utility arm in stabilising the nation's polity but as the voice of the voiceless.

"The ruling is a vivid reflection of the will of the people of Taraba State and goes a long way to show the strength of our party in the state," or stated.

While congratulating the governor for his victory, the party charged him to remain resolute in delivering dividend of democracy to the people in line with the manifesto of the PDP.

The opposition party also congratulated the people of Taraba State for their resilience in standing up for democracy and charged them to remain steadfast in their support for PDP "especially now that it has become obvious that the APC has nothing to offer Nigerians."

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
