Taraba Assembly Elect New Speaker


Following the recent Appeal court judgment that set aside the election of the speaker of Taraba state House of Assembly and member representing Mbamga state constituency, Mr Peter Abel Diah, the state house of assembly has elected Mr Mark Bako Useni as speaker.

The former speaker, Peter Diah representing Mbamga state constituency election was set aside by the appeal court seating in Yola, and amthor election to be conducted on 20th of February.

At the Assembly plenary at about 11 30 am, the Deputy speaker Muhamed Gwampo who presided over the seating through the Clark of the House, Smailu Ukwen communicated to the members on the position of the appeal court on the election of Abel Diah and the standing rules of the house.

After declaring the seat of the speaker vacant, the Deputy speaker call for election of the new speaker.

The majority leader of the house and member representing Lau state constituency Joseph Albasu Kunini nominated Mark Useni as speaker, the nomination was seconded by member representing Wukari II, Mr Josiah John Aji.

Twenty two out the twenty four members of the house who were present at the plenary unanimously supported the nomination of Mark Useni as Speaker Taraba state house.

Presenting his inaugural speech immediately after taking his seat as speaker of the house, Mark Useni loud the members of the house for having faith in him and remaining peaceful despite the political tussle that surrounded the setting aside of the election of the former speaker.

Useni said the Taraba state Asembly has shown to the politicians that issues at the assembly could be handled peacefully among the members despite the political deferences.

He applaud the state executive arm of the state for cordial working relationship with the legislative arm, he also promised to maintain the tempo for the development of the state.

It will be recall that Mark Bako Useni was speaker 7th assembly till the end of the assembly for the last general election.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
