FG establishes six centres for women affected by violence – Minister

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Senator Aisha Alhassan, on Sunday said the ministry was establishing rehabilitation centres in the six geopolitical zones of the country for women affected by violence of all kinds.

Alhassan disclosed this at a press conference in Jalingo, Taraba State while highlighting the achievements of the Buhari Administration in the last one year.

She said the move was aimed at checking the increasing cases of abuse of women’s rights in the country and catering for those already affected.

She said the ministry was also pushing for the enactment of relevant acts that criminalised violence against women and children in all the 36 states of the federation.

She said: “In keeping with the promises of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, rehabilitation centres are being established in the six geopolitical zones of the country.

“We are also going round the states of the federation to push for enactment of relevant acts that will make violence against women and children publishable everywhere in the country under the law.”

Alhassan said she was in Taraba State on an official assignment to donate to the internally displaced persons and the less privileged as part of her ministry’s mandate to enhance social development.

She called on the people of the state to be patient with, support and pray for the government to enable it to fix the country for a brighter future.

She said: “We know that there is hardship, but I can assure you that it is just a temporary thing.

“Things will soon stabilise for the good of all Nigerians as government is seriously tackling security and economic challenges to pave the way for development.”

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
