Taraba govt victimizing APC supporters — Alhassan 

The minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Senator Aisha Jummai Alhassan, has accused the Taraba state government of maltreating and intimidating some perceived supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
 
Senator Alhassan, who addressed a press conference in Jalingo yesterday, voiced dismay over the alleged discrimination, harassment and intimidation of APC supporters by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led administration in the state.

The minister alleged that a number of civil servants and local government workers identified as APC supporters had been victimised, while some had been denied their salaries.
She pledged not to identify with the government of Taraba State until it changed its alleged hostile attitude towards APC supporters.
“As you can see, I deliberately refuse to inform the government officially of my coming,” she said.
The minister, who said all citizens, including the civil servants, have the right to belong to a political party of their choice, wondered why such right was allegedly being trampled upon by the government officials in her state.
She advised Governor Dickson Darius Ishaku to see himself as the governor of Taraba State and not the governor of only PDP supporters, saying the collective unity of the state was more paramount than the interest of a few who practiced politics of “winner takes all”.
But in a swift reaction, the Chief of Staff, Administration to Governor Ishaku, Mr. Rebo Usman, dismissed the allegations that the APC supporters were being victimised or discriminated against in the state.
Usman challenged the minister to produce the list of the APC members who were being victimised, describing the allegation as “a figment of imagination of some members of the party who were bent on running down the PDP government.”
While stating that the people of the state were now benefitting from the politics of the governor, he wondered why the minister was making such statements.
He said the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari had sent two ministers to the state before the coming of the minister of women affairs showed that the president was more concerned with the needs of the people than party politics.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
