Umar Is An Acting Governor Not Deputy, Group Tells T.Y Danjuma

A former Minister of Defence, Lt.-Gen. Theophilus Danjuma(retd.), has been asked to stop referring to the Acting Governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Garba Umar, as Deputy Governor.

A political pressure group,Taraba Justice Forum, which stated this in a press statement in Abuja on Wednesday, therefore faulted the continued reference to Umar as deputy governor by Danjuma.

The former minister had referred to the acting governor as deputy governor at the weekend during his (Danjuma’s) chieftaincy installation in the state.

While faulting the former Chief of Army Staff, the group said Umar “remains the acting governor until the full recuperation of his boss, Danbaba Suntai.”

In the statement, which was signed by its General Secretary, Mr. Ambulus John, the TJF said it was “shocked that rumours that had already gained ground wwere unwittingly or wittingly confirmed by General Danjuma,” adding “We have refused to believe that the General will be a party to the activities of the cabal scheming to enforce rulership by proxy which is not recognised by the law of the land.

“We felt it is wrong for General Danjuma to regularly refer to the acting governor as deputy governor. Is he saying he knows better than the State Assembly and the committee of the ruling party which adopted the same option? Is the General saying he is above the law as represented by the resolution of the Assembly.?

“If the General is acting in such manner in flagrant violation of the legal position of the state Assembly,we say that it may amount to incitement of the people against authorities, an action capable of igniting further crisis in the state.”

The forum called on ”the General to be law abiding as he is also not likely to condone such conduct if the shoes were to be turned the other way round.”

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
