Taraba PDP Delegates Rejects Appeal Court Judgment

More than 400 delegates elected from 168 electoral wards in Taraba State under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), have rejected the decision of an Appeal Court sitting in Yola, dismissing its petition seeking to declare all candidates from Taraba selected in the 2015 Abuja primary election of the party illegal.

The Appellate Court in Yola on Wednesday dismissed the Taraba PDP delegates appeal to declare all PDP candidates in the last election illegal and order a fresh primary election.

Spokesperson of the PDP delegates and a delegate from Gassol local government area, Bala Ahmed said the judgment failed to returned delegates rights to lawfully elects candidates that will represent its party in an election.

He maintained that PDP members in Taraba state were clearly and brazenly denied their right to elect candidates of their choice for the 2015 general election.

He said several elections have been nullified based on irregular conduct of primary election conducted by the PDP and other pre-election matters.

"The ruling of the Election Tribunal is very explicit and unambiguous; there was no PDP primaries in Taraba, simple, We were denied our voting rights to choose a candidate for our party, we strongly believed that the Supreme Court will restore these rights."

He said the judgment was highly tinted, "the delegates will seek redress at the Supreme Court because nothing can supersede the rights of party members through their elected delegates to elect their candidates for an election,"Ahmed said.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
