Family Planning: 45% awareness increase in Bandawa Community

The practice of family planning methods in the control of births among women in Bandawa Community has tremendously increased to about forty five percent.


These revelations were obtained when the Media Advocacy Group team member through the support from THE CHANGE INITIATIVE “TCI” visited the community to ascertain the level of awareness creation, acceptability and accessibility of the family planning services.


Research indicates that family planning offers many benefits, including empowering parent to choose how many children they will have, better health and survival of mothers and children, a reduction in poverty, and a better education among the population.


A visit to Bandawa community in Karim Lamido LGA of Taraba State reveals that, 45 percent of the people particularly women have the knowledge and some of them are in the practice of the family planning thereby, defying some traditional and religious beliefs a development they say is paying off putting into cognizance the dwindling economy of the country.


The Kuh Shoh,  of Bandawa Alh. Yusha’u Sheria who is the district head of the Community confirmed that “most of the people are aware of the kind of generation we are now, therefore readjusting our ways of life becomes very necessary and in that regards i always endorses the concept of family planning.”


He appealed to authorities concern and donors to consider Bandawa people in accessing more commodities and consumables of the family planning initiative with ease. “We have the facility here but there is irregular supply of commodities.” He cried.


While Mr. William Bature In-charge of the Primary Health Care (PHC) facility in Bandawa commended the Bandawa people for their willingness to always take any informed decision based on what the medical personnel advocate. However, he is soliciting for more support in terms of manpower and prompt commodities supply.

According to him, “the family planning services are much needed especially in this community because our PHC is more of a center that other people always access”.

An interactive session during the visits with some community leaders addresses issues bothering on safety of family planning, when, why and how to engage on family planning.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
