Two Female Senators Declare Governorship Ambition

The political space is becoming more free and conducive for women to participate as two female Senators – Helen Esuene (PDP, Akwa Ibom South) and Aisha Jummai Al- Hassan (PDP, Taraba North) – on Wednesday declared their ambition to contest the 2015 governorship election in their respective states. The women declared their intention at a joint press briefing held at the National Assembly.
According to them, they decided to contest the governorship election of their respective states to complement the efforts men had been making over the years in the same capacity. They also pledged to “bring about more impactful governance on citizens of the states as far as genuine development was concerned”. Esuene said, “We are not saying
we are better than men that have been occupying these positions over the years in the two states and infact across the 36 states of the federation. “We are only saying as responsible women, we shall be less distracted in office like any of the men that had served in that capacity with attendant highly focused and development-driven governance.
“Our efforts would no doubt take our states to greater heights in all ramifications.
Al-Hassan, who attributed their successes in the Senate as female lawmakers to the Almighty God and the media, solicited for more support from the press on their
ambitions.

Taraba State University Joins ASUU Ultimatum to 21 Universities Over 2025 Agreement

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University (TSU) chapter, has joined 20 other state-owned universities placed on a 14-day ultimatum over the alleged non-implementation of key provisions of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement. Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
