Health Workers Alleges Taraba Health Commissioner Emblazed COVID-19 Hazard Allowance



Despite from receiving federal over government a billion through the PTF on Covid-19 alongside funds from other organizations to manage the Spread of Covid-19 pandemic in Taraba State, the State Covid-19 Committee is yet to pay frontline health workers since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2019. The Workers comprising of Medical Doctors, Laboratory scientists, Nurses, surveillance officers and Pharmacists working with the State government are alleging that their allowances might have been EMBEZZLED by Dr. Innocent Vakkai, Taraba State Commissioner for Health who chairs the State Covid-19 Committee. Investigations revealedd that the state Covid-19 Committee chaired by by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Innocent Vakkai has received funds and supports from the federal government and international agencies to support the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in the state. 


The funds according to our investigations include N1billion disbursed by federal government through the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 to 32 states in the country, including Taraba State in September.


Other funds include a Hundred  Million from World Bank; another 165,000USD from Saving One  Million Lives Program For Results (SOML PforR) and over 50M released to the Committee by the Taraba State Government among other logistic supports from corporate organizations and individuals like Access Bank, Victims Support Funds,  VSF among others. Taraba State also benefitted  from a US$22.4 million Nigeria  Humanitarian Fund (NHF)  announced to help states in the North East to address the increased  vulnerability of people affected by both the COVID-19 pandemic and the existing humanitarian crisis in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.


 Taraba Truth and Facts Investigation revealed that the State government had at the initial stage of the Covid-19  pandemic released the sum of  50 Million to the Committee, while another undisclosed amount was disbursed to the committee four months later. 

Despite Available Funds, Health Workers Laments Non-payment.


The workers wondered  how the state with such  amount at its disposal is yet  to pay its frontline health workers.

Truck Drivers Block Jalingo–Zing–Yola Road Following Dispute at NDLEA Checkpoint

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
