2 dead, houses, farms razed in Taraba community

Bandawa community in Karim-Lamido local government council of Taraba State has now become a shadow of itself.

This is following a fire outbreak that did not only raze down the community, but also led to the death of two persons.

Reports made available to DAILY POST indicated that apart from the deaths, over hundreds of property worth millions of Naira were destroyed.

The incident, which took the community unawares, claimed the deceased persons while attempting to save the lives of the young and elderly ones in the community

In a telephone chat with our correspondent, the President of the Bandawa Community Development Association, Mathias Manyi, he called on those affected to remain calm as efforts were being put in place to get the presence of both the state and the federal government.

The President who could not say the cause of the inferno as of the time of filing this report, beckoned on the authorities to assist the victims in view of the devastating effect of the fire disaster.

Also speaking to our correspondent, a lecturer at the State university who hails from the community, Professor Nicholas Namesan Oliver described the incident which has compelled the people to seek for refuge in nearby communities and public places as “unfortunate.”

He was, however, optimistic that the state governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku would intervene, stating that “I know our Governor would have compassion on us and come to our rescue.

Narrating his ordeals, one of the victims who gave his name as Ishaka, said “what pains me most was the loan I went and collected, which I used in my farm that has now been razed down.”

Ishaku and some of the victims who are now fervently seeking for helping hands said “with this situation, one can be forced to commit suicide because I don’t even know how I am going to repay the loan.”

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
