The Taraba State governor, Darius Ishaku, has promised that his
administration would do its best to make farming more attractive in the
state.
Ishaku, who spoke through his commissioner for agriculture,
Dr David Ishaya, said that his administration would provide necessary
inputs to assist farmers during the rainy season.
He added that
government has made concerted efforts to provide fertilisers to farmers
for all-year-round agriculture for the production of assorted crops for
consumption and export.
“As we speak, plans are ongoing to have an alternative means other than depending completely on oil,” he said.

He
noted that already a master plan on how to ensure the availability of
modern farming equipment at government-controlled price had been
produced for implementation and assured the people of the three
senatorial zones of the state that he would provide enabling environment
for farmers to access farming tools. According to him, the present
government would discourage the youths from migrating to urban centres
in search of manual jobs by fully engaging them in modern farming
tactics.
He informed that 15 metrics tonnes of fertiliser is
expected to arrive the state to be distributed to farmers, stressing
that government will put machineries in place to ensure that genuine
farmer benefitted.
