Cybercrime: Nigeria faces major challenge abroad - Hon. Malle

The Chairman, National Assembly anti-money laundering and cyber-security coalition, Hon. Aminu Ibrahim Malle has reiterated the commitment of the 8th Assembly in tackling the menace of cybercrime.

He said the scourge had negatively affected the image of Nigeria across the world, thereby making Nigerians vulnerable to attacks.

In an exclusive interview with DAILY POST in Abuja, Malle regretted that despite the fact that cybercrime and money laundering were challenges, Nigeria was exceptional to the extent that Nigerians living at home and in the diaspora were being seen as fraudsters.

He stressed that the coalition would work towards redeeming the image of Nigeria at all costs.

“The coalition, which comprises some well meaning Senators and members of House of Representatives, has the objectives of working towards redeeming the battered image of Nigeria in the International arena as a result of money laundering and cybercrimes”, he noted.

Hon. Malle was emphatic that cooperation of international community in doing business with Nigeria was strategic to the change agenda.

According to him, it was not enough that Money laundering Act 2015 was passed into law and accented to by the President.

He was of the view that the Act must be strictly implemented and sanctions inherent in it meted against defaulters, adding that the National Assembly was ready to amend the Act if there was need.

“The National Assembly is ready to monitor implementation of the 2015 Money Laundering Act; so we want it implemented strictly and if there is need for amendment to make sure that defaulters were sanctioned, we are ready to do that”, he added.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
